5. Adequate working space for students, Masonic brethren, and research scholars who want to take advantage of our exceptional col- lections.
6. Ample reserve shelving so that Brothers Delzell and Haywood, in the normal course of their extensive correspondence all over the world may explore the possible sources of added gifts of material which we want.
7. If the Craft, because of the many hallowed memories associated with our present library structure, feel that it should be preserved as a Masonic shrine, no material should be stored in it from necessity which is not readily replaceable from insurance.
Ordinarily, one does not plan a building program while a measure of inflation prevails. However, our library has never had a serious fire, so we are overdue. The law of averages can run out on us at any moment. The difference in cost of a new edifice now in rela- tion to ten years from now does not justify the risk we are taking. Even if the cost of a new structure were to run into several hundred thousand dollars, it could not be over an added year's dues for the 87,000 Masons of this jurisdiction. It is time for us to cease dilly- dallying. Whenever you can, do the Craft the great favor of pro- moting an adequate fireproof library.
