Be- came mech. expert, especially in the use of exhaust steam for heating water and buildings; invented and was the first to adopt the thermostatic valves in heating apparatus, known as the Webster sys- tem of low-pressure steam heating; removed to Chicago to establish the Webster business in the West, 1889; identified with Warren Webster & Co., and The Pneumatic Tube Co., Chicago.
