The fire of 1871 wiped out the assets of the firm, but he united with brother in shouldering the losses and building up the business, which, since 1874. has been confined to grass and field seeds; busi- ness incorporated, 1888, as the Albert Dickinson Co., of which he is treas .; dir. In 1861 entered emplov of Hugh McLennan in grain business in Chicago, becoming partner, 1867, in Hugh McLennan & Co., grain exporting business, which continued until 1886; in grain business, alone, 1886, until 1898, then retired. Was dir. Fifth Nat. Bank, and vice pres. Nat. Bank of Amer- ica and America Nat. Bank, all of Chicago; dir. Chicago Sugar Refining Co. from organization in 1883 to 1897, and part of time its vice pres .: after- ward dir. and vice-pres. Glucose Sugar Refining Co. Was dir. and vice pres.
