ACADEMY OF OUR LADY OF THE SACRED HEART
NEAR FORT WAYNE, ALLEN CO., INDIANA.
This Institution, most eligibly situated six miles from the city of Fort Wayne, offers particular advantages to persons acquiring a solid, useful and ornamental education. It is easy of access, one mile east of the Academy Station, which is twenty minutes' ride from the city, on the Jackson and Saginaw Rail- road. At the same distance from said city, on the Grand Rapids Railroad, is Wallen Station, two and a half miles west of the In- stitution.
The English course is thorough, including, besides Elementary Branches, Botany, As- tronomy, Chemistry, the higher Mathematics, Belles-lettres, etc. The French Language is taught by competent natives of France, and spoken in the Institution, being the language of the vicinity.
Particular attention paid to Music.
French, Vocal Music in class, and Fancy Work form no extra charge.
Pupils received at all times during the year, Non-Catholic pupils required (only for the sake of uniformity) to assist at the public exercises with propriety and decorum.
No uniform required. Letters sent and re- ceived subject to inspection.
PAYMENT REQUIRED HALF-YEARLY IN ADVANCE. Books and Fancy Work can be had at the Institution at current prices:
Each pupil should have 4 towels; 4 napkins; 1 knife, fork, spoons, goblet; 1 dressing gown; 2 black aprons; 4 changes of linen; suminer and winter balmorals.
Conducted by the Sisters of the Holy Cross.
Great expense, in this Institution, is not a necessary attendant upon a thorough education-the terms being placed at a rate which, it is hoped, will prove an incentive to all who appreciate an academical course. Weekly notes, monthly bulletins, semi-annual examinations, and public distribution of premiums at the end of the scholastic year, are among the many means in use for exciting a laudable emulation. Love of intellectual pleasures, as well as easy, graceful deportment, is cultivated by weekly entertainments, consisting of Music, Readings, Declamations, etc., held in the Academy.

PREFACE.
We trust that the patrons of the sixth volume of the Fort Wayne Directory will find it by far the most valuable of the series. Realizing the advantages of a township Directory of the county, we have, at a large additional expense, included in this issue a very complete list of the ' residents of each township in Allen County, together with a business directory of the contiguous cities and villages of Auburn, Bluffton, Columbia City, Decatur, · Huntington and Kendallville, Indiana, also Antwerp and Van Wert, Ohio. On comparing the present issue with the 1879 Directory, we find that the Fort Wayne alphabetical list of names foots up (after liberal deductions in allowance for duplicates, etc.) fully 12,000 names-or an increase of some 1,800 names, which indicates a very close canvass on the part of our employees, as well as a gratifying increase in the population of the city.
