Eel River Division of the W., St. L. & P. Ry. on the Blue river, and has a population of about 2,800. Large quantities of grain and stock seek shipment from this point, and quite a heavy business is transacted in all departments of trade, the merchants being, as a class, lively, energetic men, while the manufacturers are reaching out and seeking wider connections.
Among the leading industries of the village we would mention the Woolen Factory of R S Glass, which is rapidly obtaining a prominent position for excellence of work. Also the exten- sive works of W M Appleton, who has built up a large and in- creasing business in the manufacture of Carriages, Buggies and Wagons during his 25 years of manufacturing experience. He employs from 10 to 15 competent workmen and turns out over 100 vehicles of first class workmanship per annum, and has acquired an enviable reputation as a reliable, energetic bus- iness man.
The hotel accommodation is good, and the new McDonald House will be found superior in comforts and one of the best kept hotels in northern Indiana.
Two weekly papers are published, one Republican, and one Democratic, and enjoy a fair patronage.
The religious and mental culture is subserved by five churches and one school edifice ; the financial interests are looked after by two sound banking institutions ; and the unruly are given safe keeping in the handsome $30,000 jail. O. H. Woodworth, postmaster.

DECATUR.
The county seat of Adams Co., is situated on the Richmond Division of the Grand Rapids & Indiana R. R., 22 miles south- east of Fort Wayne at the junction of the new narrow-guage Toledo, Delphos & Burlington R. R. The St. Mary's river winds its course along the eastern edge of the town. The ad- mirable railroad facilities, combined with the enterprise of the business community, draw large traffic from the surrounding territory, and the town presents an appearance of stir and bustle not usually noticeable in places of its size. The mag- nificent court house, erected during the past few years at a cost of over $100,000, rears its stately head, and is the first object to strike the eye of an approaching traveler; while several fine church and school buildings, with others in course of erection, attest to the taste of the citizens, and prove them zealous in good works. The Burt House, under the able management of " Dick " Townsend, receives the patronage of the bulk of the traveling public, and is a good hotel. Population, as shown by the late census, about 2,000. Postmaster, J. A. Blossom.

It is celebrated for its inexhaustible quarries of limestone. The lime from these quarries is considered the best found in any western state, and is in great demand. The quarries and kilns give employment to 300 persons. The village is located in a very productive agricultural district, on the W., St. L. & P.
