Commonwealth of Mass. Hampden 53. To either of the Constables of Brumfield, Presley In the name of the commonwealth of Inss. you are hereby required to notify and warm the inhabitants of Bumfuld qualified to vote in Town affairs to meet at the Town Hall in said Brumfield on Monday, the sixth day of February, 1928 at ten o'clock in the forenvon, to act on the following articles:


art. 1. Mit. 2.


To choose a moderator to preside over said midling. To give in their notes to the election officers on one bailet for the following town officers:


Jorn Clerk, Three Selection, Joun Treasurer, Vax Collider, Free warden, five constables, all for the term of the year; one Schort Committee , one assessor, one Cemetery Commissioner , two Library Justies, all for the term of three years; also one member of the board of Public welfare for the term oflove year; one member for the term of two years and one menter for the term of three years. The polls will be open at 10 o'clock in the towncon and may be cloved at two 'clock in the afternoon.

To hear reports of officers and agents heretofore hoven by the town and act thereou.


To raise and appropriate money for the support of schools. highways, bridges, library, payment of town dilts and defray the expenses of the Ensuing year and direct nous the same shall be expended.

annual Town meeting, February 6, 11:28.


In response to the foregoing warrant, the voters of Brunfield assembled at Town Hall.


The meeting was called to order by the Town Clerk at 10 A.M. It was voted to dispense with the reading of the warrant and Art. I was taken up. A ballot was taken for moderator, the voting list being used, the result being a total of six ballots, all of which were for Munroe G. Tarbell, who was declared lected and was sworn by the Clerk.


The previously appointed letters being in their respective pour- trond, the Clock delivered the ballots to the ballot derks and took a receipt for same. at 10:05 a.M. The polls were declared open. It this time a recess was taken until 10:30.


At 10:30 business was resumed . I otid, to accept the report as printed. ). U. Brown, being unable to serve as electron officer, Um I Spooner was appointed by the Selectmen to act in his place and was sworn by the Town Clerk.

The finance Committee recommended that salaries of town officers be the same as last year and the following 1 salaris: were voted :

25,- I motion by Mr. Cheney to reduce Collectors salary to "200. was defeated. V motion by Mr. Madison that Board of Public Welfare be paid 50. Each was amended by Mr. Fogg $ to "36. Each, but was not carried.

Av. Sherman was declared elected as Juste of the Harriet Harding Fund for three years. a motion was offered by Mr. Freeman that 600. be appro- preated for purchase of fire hose, Amended by The. Spooner to 1000. further amended by Mr: Cheney that # 1100, be appropriated to purchase 1000 feet of fire hose. This was voted 77 in favor and 17 against. art. 19. art. 20 Voted, to appropriate $ 450, for maintenance, equip ment and insurance of fire truck and salary of chief. Ou inotion of Yco. C. Hitchcock, it was voted, that Hearse to the Cemetery Commissioners be authorized to sell at Public auction, the hearse, sleigh and harness belonging to the town.

ON notion of F.H. Lawrence, it was voted, That the wassers be authorized to divide the town into three districts for the purpose of listing polls, personal property, Etc. Each assessor taking one district alternately ..

on recommendation of Finance Committee, it was voted to appropriate 2,000. for the warren Road under Chapter 90, and that any construction under this vote to be done by contract. 60 voting for and 29 against.


Voted, to appropriate $150 .- from Surplus Revenue to install The Town Scales, and that a Com mutter of three other than the Selectmen be appointed by the moderator to install same and report at the next mating,


Voted to appropriate the following sums to make up the overdrafts in the respective accounts for 1927: Bridges 27.83 Charity 210.08 Snow Removal 8.88


On the appropriation for schools, there was considerable discussion, I motion by 7.H. Coolbroth was offered asking for a total appropriation of 29,100. as follows :- From Surplus Revenue .20.58 11 Overlay Surplus 906.89 Raised by Taxation 28,172.53 This was amended by 7 1. Lawrence that the appro- priation be 28,100. raised by taxation. This was lost, an amendment by S.O. Russell that #29, 100. be appro- printed for schools and raised by taxation was carried 38 voting for and 24 against.


at 2 o'clock, it was voted to extend the time for closing the polls one hour.


at 2:15 a recess was taken to allow the election officers to canvass the ballots cast, the Selectinen and Town Clerk having directed them to start counting the ballots ;


at 3 o'clock, the polls were declared closed and The remaining ballots canvassed, a total vote of 230 was announced.


a new ballot box approved by the State and purchased at a cost of $70. - was used for the first time.


at 4:30 the business meeting was adjourned.

Commonwealth of mass. (Hampden se, To either of the Constables of Brumfield, Filling In the name of the Commonwealth of Mass, you are hereby required to notify and warn the inhabitants of Brim field qualified to vote in town affairs to meet in the tourtrall in said Brimfield on Thursday, June 21, 1928 at 7:30 o'clock P.Il to act on the following: -

To choose a moderator the preside over said meeting To see if the town will indemnify the Commonwealth of Mass against any and all clowns for land, grade and draw- age damages which may be caused by or result from the Paying out alteration, construction ou reconstruction of the State Highway known as the Patiner Road, or any section or relocation thereof, and will authorize the Board of Select men to sign an indemnity agreement therefor in behalf of the town, and make an appropriation therefor, or take any action relative thereto !


art. 3. To see if the town will vote to elect a lugliway surveyor for the term of one year as provided in sect. 1 Chapt. +1 of the General Lawe or take any action thereon.

To see if the town will appropriate an additional sum of money for the Library, for Insurance, Je ece if the town will vote to convey to Berg & Perry that cortam tract of land containing about 64 kg rds of land scituate in that part of Brumfield Formerly known as School District no. 8, conveyed to said town for school purposes by william toskett by deed dated June 18, 1868 and recorded with Hampden County Deeds, Book 259, Page 42, said conveyance to be made to said Benj, E. Perry successor in tette of said william to skett, in accordance with the conditions of said deed


art. 12 To see if the town will vote to insure the members of the fire department and appropriate a sum of money for same, or take any action thereon. and you are directed to serve this warrant by posting attested copies thereof one at the Town Hall and one at the Center Post office, seven days at least before the time of holding said meeting.

Special Town meeting June 21, 1928.


In response to the foregoing warrant about 100 of the colors of Brimfield assembled in Town Hall. At 7:30 the clerk called the meeting to order and read the warranty proceeding to art. 1,


art. 1.


art. 2. State Highway


20 ballots were cast for moderator of which 14 were for Munroe G. Tarbell and 6 were blank, Mr. Tarbell was declared elected and sworn by the Town Clock. at this point, it was voted on motion of mr. Haley to adjourn untel 8 o'clock. The Finance Committee recommended that this article be laid over. After lengthy discussion pro and con a motion previously made by Mr. Russell was voted, 63 for and 28 against :


Voted, that the town will indemnify the Commonwealth of Mass , against a ny and all claims for land , grade and drawages which may be caused by or result from The laying out, alteration, construction or reconstruction of the State Highway known as the Palmer Road or any section or relocation thereof, and that the Board of Selectusu le authorized to sign an indemnity agreement therefor in behalf of the town indennufying the Commonwealth as aforesaid,

Finance Committee recommended that this article be passed over. a motion to that Effect was made and was not voted. after considerable discussion it was Voted, to appropriate $1,000.00 for highways to be used for gravelling. Voted, ou recommendation of Finance Committee to appropriate 370.75 to pay damage claim of George A. Dumas. Finance Committee recommended that action on this article be postponed and a motion to that effect was not voted. On motion of Mr. Please , it was Voted, to appropriate $54.60 for the Library. art. 11 Voted, that the town for the consideration of 20 .- Convey to Bury. E. Perry that certain tract of land situate in that part of the town formerly known as School District No. 8, conveyed to the town for school purposes by william tookett by deed dated June 18, 1868 and recorded with Hampden County deeds, Book 259, Page 42 and that the Town Treasurer be authorized in the name and behalf of the town , to execute, acknowledge and deliver the deed conveying said premises, Art. 12 Voted, to pass over.


His concluded the business, but on request of Mr Russell, it was voted, That it was the Accuse of


the meeting, That the Town discontinue a short piece of the lower end of the Dunhamtown- Brimfield Road. at 9:30, it was voted, to adjourn.

Special Town meeting July 30, N9 28. In response to the foregoing warrant, the voters of Brumfield to the number of twenty-Eight assembled In Town Hall on Monday, July 30, 1928 at 8 P.M. The warrant was read by the Town Clerk and the meeting proceeded to the choosing of a moderator . a ballot was taken, resulting in a total of 13 ballots, all of which were for Munroe & Tarbell, who was declared elected and sworn by the Clerk.

On recommendation of the Finance Committee, it was Voted, to raise and appropriate the sum of + 3,083. to pay for land taking and land, grade and drainage damages along the proposed new state Highway known as the Palmer Road. On motion of Mr. Russell, it was voted to abandon that piece of the old wales Road between the Palmer Road southerly to land of the Southern New England R.R. Voted, That the town abandon that portion of the Duuhanitown road from the Street Railway underpass, south- westerly to the road leading from Forkett & mille to Elever Bradway's, on condition that the old town road running through the property now owned by Eliner Bradway be bre-located and that the State build an approach to same, subject to the approval of the Selection.

State Electron. November 6, 1928.


In response to the foregoing warrant, the voters of Brumfield assembled fat Town Hall, At 10 o'clock am. The clerk read the warrant and delivered the ballots to the previously chosen and sworn ballot clerks. The Constable then opened the ballot box showing same to be empty and the register reading gero. The polls where they declared oben.


Balloting was very brisk and steady and at 4 o'clock P.M. the warden declared the Polls closed. The ballots were removed from the ballot box and the warden proceeded to open the envelopes containing absent voters ballots, and deposited them in the box. At the close of this procedure, the register stood at 332, which tallied with the two check lists. The Clerk therefore announced 332 as the total number of ballots cast , and were for the following :
