Raymond A. Harriman of 15 Prospect St. was unanimously ected to the Personnel Board the selectmen's session last ght to complete the four- ar term vacated by Chair- an M. Stanley Metz. The ac- on came at a joint conven- on of the selectmen and Town oderator Richard B. Johnson. Harriman, a personnel spe- alist at General Electric Com- any in Lynn, has been as- sting the Personnel Board in unofficial capacity for sev- al years.

The convention did not act fill a second vacancy on the bard caused by the resigna- on of Attorney Robert L. asi, but it was evident a law- er would be sought since both asi and Metz are lawyers and he convention indicated the resence of an attorney "would trengthen the board."

At the same time it was in- icated that the convention would contact Attorney Mar- in C. Goldman to see if he would accept appointment to he hoard. Goldman is a mem- er of the Swampscott Hous- ng Authority and president of he Boosters Club. 1967

Town of Swampscott

thereby better informed as to the scheduling of major and minor repairs to streets and sidewalks. This procedure should prove to be more orderly and economical over the years.

INSURANCE

The Town has assumed fifty percent of the cost of prolonged illness coverage in its employee group insurance program, as required by statute. Other parts of this plan have been brought into line with today's medical costs.

Insurance coverages have been maintained consistent with current replacement values. Increasing amounts of coverage have been placed with mutual companies as an economy measure. The new Central Fire Station caused a slight increase in necessary coverage.

GENERAL

Inter-municipal cooperation was continued in 1961, particularly in our efforts to arrange a joint incinerator project to reduce future costs of waste disposal. Federally financed standby plans for a Town facility also are under way to be available in the event of an emergency.

Attendance at regular and weekly meetings again was excellent in 1961.

Our sincere thanks go to the citizens and officials who have provided such fine assistance and cooperation during 1961. All have a share in the town's continuing progress.

The high level of interest and participation by many people speaks well for the future improvement of our fine community.
