To Garritt Barry, a Constable of the Town of Arlington, in said County. GREETING:
In the name of the Commonwealth of Massachusetts, you are hereby required to notify and warn the inhabitants of the Town of Arlington, who are qualified to vote in elections and town affairs, to assemble in the Town Hall, on Thursday, the twentieth day of February, at 8.00 o'clock P. M., then and there to act on the following articles, viz :
ARTICLE 1. To choose a Moderator to preside at said meeting.
ART. 2. To see if the Town will authorize and empower its Board of Public Works, in the name and behalf of the Town, to enter into a contract with the Lexington Peat Company, granting to said Company the privilege of excavating peat from that portion of its water supply area known as The Great Meadows in East Lexington for the purpose of the improvement of said area as a reserve water supply basin for a term of fifteen years on such terms and under such restrictions as the said Board of Public Works may in its discretion impose.

By virtue of this warrant I have notified and warned the inhabi- tants of the Town of Arlington, qualified to vote in elections and town affairs, to meet at the time and place, and for the purposes herein named, by causing a printed attested copy to be left at every dwelling house in the town, and also by posting an attested copy on the doors of the Town Hall seven days at least before said day of meeting.

Pursuant to the foregoing warrant the inhabitants of the Town of Arlington, qualified to vote in elections and Town affairs, met in the Town Hall, on Thursday, the twentieth day of February in the year of our Lord one thousand nine hundred and eight, and were called to order at eight (8) o'clock in the evening by the Town Clerk, who read the warrant calling the meeting and the return thereon of the constable who served the same upon the inhabitants.

The meeting nominated and chose as Moderator John G. Brackett, who was sworn by the Town Clerk to the faithful performance of his duties.

M., then and there to act on the following articles, viz :
ARTICLE 1. To choose a moderator to preside at said meeting.
ART. 2. To elect by ballot the following town officers-A Town Clerk, for one year; a Town Treasurer, for one year ; a Town Col- lector, for one year ; an Auditor, for one year ; three Selectmen, for one year; one Assessor, for three years; three members of the School Committee, for three years; one member of the Board of Trustees of the Pratt Fund, for five years; one member of the Board of Commissioners of the Sinking Fund for three years; two Trustees of the Robbins Library, for three years; three Cemetery Commissioners, one being for one year, one for two years, and one for three years ; five Constables, for one year; one Park Commis- sioner, for three years; one member of the Board of Health, for three years ; one Tree Warden, for one year ; three members of the Board of Public Works, for one year. Also to choose or appoint all the other usual Town Officers, in such a manner as the Town may determine. Also, upon the same ballot to vote "Yes" or "No" upon the question, "Shall licenses be granted for the sale of intoxi- cating liquors in this Town ?" For these purposes the polls will be opened as soon as possible after the organization of the meeting and kept open until five o'clock, P. M.

ART. 3. To hear and act on the reports of the Selectmen and other Town Officers and Committees heretofore appointed.
ART. 4. To make an appropriation for the Robbins Library for the ensuing year.
ART. 5. To make an appropriation for the Public Schools for the ensuing year, and determine in what manner the same shall be expended.
ART. 6. To determine in what manner the Town ways, highways and bridges shall be repaired the ensuing year.
ART. 7. To determine what sum of money the Town will raise by general tax, to defray Town expenses, interest, debt, and State Aid, and make an appropriation for the same.
ART. 8. To see if the Town will appoint the Selectmen agents of the Town, to institute and prosecute in favor of the Town and appear and defend suits and legal proceedings against or involving the interests of the Town, with power to employ counsel therein, and when necessary, in all other legal matters and business apper- taining to Town affairs during the year commencing March 2, 1908.
ART. 9 To see what action the Town will take in relation to the appointment of a Committee of Twenty-one for the ensuing year.
ART. 10. To see if the Town will appropriate the sum of $275.00 for the proper observance of Memorial Day, the same to be expended under the direction of Francis Gould Post 36, G. A. R.

ART. 11. To see if the Town will make an appropriation for suppressing leaf eating insects, other than gypsy and brown-tail moths, or take any action relative thereto.

ART. 13. To see what action the town will take in regard to the extension of water mains, make an appropriation for the same, and determine in what manner the money shall be raised.

ART. 22. To see if the Town will authorize and empower its Board of Public Works, in the name and behalf of the Town, to release to Frederick R. and George M. Vail all the right, title and interest acquired by the said town by virtue of the taking of land for sewer purposes, in a strip or parcel of land 2 feet in width on Laurel Street, so-called, described as follows :
Beginning at a point on the northerly line of Brattle Street, 223 feet from the easterly line of Massachusetts Avenue, thence at an angle of 90 degrees in a northwesterly direction 173.33 feet to land owned, or supposed to be owned, by Mary R. Dol- loff ; thence, by land of said Mary R. Dolloff in a northeasterly direction 2 feet ; thence, in a southeasterly direction 173.33 feet

to the northerly line of said Brattle Street; thence by said northerly line of said Brattle Street, 2 feet in a southwesterly direction to point of beginning.
The above described strip or parcel of land is shown on plan filed in the office of the Town Clerk, entitled "Plan of House Lots belonging to M. H. Wellington, Arlington, Mass., July, 1901, and approved by the Board of Survey, Sept. 9, 1901.
ART. 23. To see if the Town will accept and establish as a town way the private way known as Sawin Street, extending from Teele Street to Henderson Street, as laid out by the Joint Board of Selectmen and Board of Public Works, under the provisions of law authorizing the assessment of betterments, make an appropri- ation for constructing the same and determine in what manner the money shall be raised. Said way as laid out is described as follows :
Beginning on the southeasterly line of Teele Street at a point 553.15 feet from the northerly line of Massachusetts Avenue ; thence at an angle of 90 degrees a distance of 215 feet to the northwesterly line of Henderson Street at a point 580.75 feet from the said northerly line of Massachusetts Avenue.
The above described line is the southerly side line of Sawin Street and the northerly side line is parallel with and distant 40 feet therefrom, as shown on plan approved by the Board of Survey, December 23, 1907, and filed in the office of the Town Clerk, December 30, 1907.
ART. 24. To see if the Town will accept and establish as a town way the private way known as Summer Street, extending from a certain point east of Grove Street to Pine Street, as laid out by the Joint Board of Selectmen and Board of Public Works, under the provisions of law authorizing the assessment of betterments, make an appropriation for constructing the same and determine in what manner the money shall be raised. Said way, as laid out, is described as follows :
Beginning at a point at the westerly end of the curve in the northerly line of Summer Street, as shown on plan approved by the Board of Survey, February 17, 1900, said point being marked "M" on said plan and defined on the ground by a granite monument ; thence, north 45 degrees, 40 minutes west by a line shown in red on plan above referred to 605.06 feet to the beginning of a curve on said plan ; thence, continuing in a northerly direction by a curved line of 303.11 feet radius a distance of 204.13 feet to a point in the centre of Brattle Street; thence, continuing north 2 degrees, 9 minutes and 55

seconds W. 198.01 feet to an intersection with the southerly line of Pine Street as now accepted by the Town. The above described line is the southerly line of said Summer Street and the northerly line is parallel with and distant therefrom 50 feet. The said street is laid out in accordance with the plan above referred to and said plan is made a part of this laying out.
Further description is shown on plan and profile made by H. S. Adams, C.E., entitled "Plan and Profile of Summer Street, November, 1899," approved by the Board of Survey, February 17, 1900, now on file in the Town Clerk's office.
ART. 25. To see if the Town will accept and establish as a town way the private way known as Wollaston Avenue, extending from Wachusett Avenue to Tanager Street, as laid out by the Joint Board of Selectmen and Board of Public Works under the pro- visions of law authorizing the assessment of betterments, make an appropriation for constructing the same and determine in what manner the money shall be raised. Said way as laid out is described as follows :
Beginning at the southeast corner of Wachusett Avenue and Wollaston Avenue as accepted Nov. 13,1894 ; thence along the southerly line of said Wollaston Avenue extended 304 feet to a stone bound at the southeast corner of said Wollaston Avenue extended and West Street, so-called, thence by a diagonal line in a northerly direction 60.95 feet to a stone bound on the northerly line of Wollaston Avenue extended and at the end of the northerly line of Tanager Street; thence, in an easterly direction on the northerly line of Wollaston Avenue extended, 325.65 feet to the end of the acceptance of Wollaston Avenue, November 13, 1894 ; thence by a diagonal line across Wollaston Avenue 60.6 feet to point of beginning ; said Wollaston Avenue Extension, as above described, is 60 feet in width, and is in accordance with the plan approved by the Board of Survey, December 23, 1907, filed in the office of the Town Clerk, De- cember, 30, 1907.
