Evelyn B. Landen, CHURCH CLERK.

V. . ILL . F.nu Mrs.

Charles Deland. A group of people from the Sturbridge Federated Church and the Second Baptist Church of Palmer joined us in this service. Rev. J. Thurston Powell of the Sturbridge Federated Church brought the message. A fine Easter breakfast was served at the Church by a group of the Ladies Benevolent Society.

In May Grange Sunday was observed as part of the celebration of Rural Life Sunday. The Various patriotic orders of Sturbridge and Brimfield were our guests for Memorial Sunday. For the first time in several years it was decided to hold the Baccalaureate Service in the evening. It was felt that this time might be easier for the parents. We were aled to have hev. Frederick Bruce of Wales bring the message for this occasion. In August Alumni Sunday was observed with an Alumni Choir, with Dr. Andrew Magill pre-ching the sermon, and Rev. Morton Hale taking part in the service. It is gratifying to have so many of the alumni interested in the Church. During your postor's vacation in August Rev. J Thurston Powell of Sturbridge, Rev. Horace Blackford of Brookfield, Rev. Stanley Keach of Palmer and Rev. Edwin R. Gordon of Dudley occuppied the pulpit. During the summer there tas no Vacation Church School held this year due to illness in the families of several of the regular teachers. It is our definite intention to have a school next summer.

Worldwide Communion Sunday was observed as usual on the First Sunday in October. A special offering was taken at this service for the regular missionary apportionment of the Church. The pastor enjoyed a vacation on Sunday, October 17th, when under the direction of our laymen's representative , Mr. Charles DeLand, the laymen took complete charge of the service. Mr. DeLand, himself hold the undivided attention of the children with his illustrated Junior Sermon and Mr. Herbert Carleton brought a very fine message. A Union Thanksgiving Service was held this year at the Holland Church on the Wednesday evening before Thanksgiving. I shall leave the report of Youth Sunday to the

Fellowship. At Christmas time we appreciated the

effort of those who took part in the Play, "The Empty hoom" by Dorothy Clarke ilson under the direction of Mrs. william Dovis.

The Mother and Daughter Banquet has become a regular event which is looked forward to with a good deal of anticipation. This year the Banquet Tas Well received. Mrs. Alice Snow of Stow was the speaker. The fathers and sonshave decided that they should also have a banquet. A very successful Father and Son Banquet was held in November with Rev. Clement Hahn of Worcester as the speaker. luch of the success of these banquets this year has been due to the able chairmanship of Mrs. Esther Parker in planning the suppers.

Since October a Music Committee of three including, Mrs. Charles DeLand, Kiss Harriet Tarbell and Mrs. Frederick Worby have been active. This committee was appointed by the Standing Committee. I should like to suggest that this meeting consider the advisability of making this committee a regular committee elected by the people of the Church with the power to appoint the church organist and choir director on the approval of the trustees, and to act in an advisory capacity to the organist and choir director. We feel that we have been fortunate to have the positions of organist and choir director so ably filled after the resignation of Mrs. "orby and miss Lillian worby who had contributed so much to the music of the Church for a number of years.

"Te have appreciated during the last year the able services of Ir. and .... rs. Charles Deland who have acted as heads of the welcoming committee and Mr. Frederick Worby who has been in charge of the ushers. We feel that this contributes much to the dignity of the service.

During the passed year I have officated at five funerals of people who were connected with Brimfield. The place which has been left Deacon Bert E. Campbell will be difficult to fill. His life was a very vital part

and

the community. I have officated at seven wequines in the

Town of Brinfield. Fourteen children received the rite of Christian Loptism in the Church during the year. I shall leave the actual statistics for Church members to our Church Clerk.

I confess that I have not kept an actual record of the number of calls I have made during the year. I do feel that this is a very important part of the pastor's work, and I shall appreciate it if you will let me know when there is someone who especially needs a visit from the pastor. This has been a rewarding year from my point of view. I have felt that I was not carrying the work of the Church alone, but that many of you were vitally interested in it because you have been ready to help in so many Toys. Both urs. manter and I appreciate all you did for us both personally and in the way es you carried some of the duties of the Church we had been carrying at the time when mrs. Manter was ill. We still feel that there is much to be done to make the message of Christ more keenly felt in this community. ith that task constantly before us we look out into the coming year seeking the fellowship of the Church and God's strength.

The well quarter has been most encouraging. Children who were to Tears of nge were admitted to the Nursery Class of three year olds and seem to be enjoying the activities. We have been pleased to have a number of children come regularly this fall who have entered the Sunday School for the first time although they have been residents of Brifield for some yaers. The enrollment hos been 7/ and the averare attendance 59 . . The classes have been so larve that it has seemed wise to have two classes meet at the pers onege. In this way, each class has its own separate room and much more satisfactory teaching may be done.

Four teachers attended the Teachers' Training Classes held in the Second Congregational Church of here for five Monday nights this foll.

The church School has been especially interested and generous in their missionory giving. A ten dollar Care Package of food was sent to a family in Germany and a grateful reply received. Also fifteen dollar package of clothing, toys and condy was sent os our Christmas service project. The Church School contributed 22,60 in the coin cards used for missionary offerings, and sent 2I. an to the

New in lind Home for Little wonderers to ether with bo: es of food.

The regular Christmas parties were held for the different ages and ~ norran and posent were presented in the sanctuary on December 19th.

The Church School is grateful to ar. Charles Deland who has been most willing to help with art work. He designed . lovely Christmas window transparency for Grades one and tow to make for their homes, and outlined q fine mop which is being used by the Junior High Class in their study of the life of Poul.
