REPORT OF BOARD OF PUBLIC WELFARE
To His Honor the Mayor &
Members of the City Council
This detailed report of the Board of Public Welfare, for the year, 1953, covering cost of Aid to Dependent Children, Disability Assistance, and General Relief, is herein sub- mitted.
The gross cost of operating these categories is broken down as follows: General Relief- $36,393.96; Aid to Dependent Children- $72,236.90; Disability Assist- ance- $24,592.96; Salaries- $7,983.45, for a total of $141,207.27, as the Gross Cost.
Reimbursement from Federal, State and other Cities, and towns total- $85,345.44, leaving the net cost to the City of $55,861.38. This net cost shows a reduction in operating expense of $18,536.72, in comparison with the previous year, when the net cost to the City was $74,398.55. General Relief reached a low point in 1953 until November, when the case load indicated a gradual and slow increase in this category.
The outlook for 1954 does not look too favorable.
