Every City must have a Directory not only to give the names and addresses of its citizens, but also to give that character of progressiveness that would record the names of its people for historical purposes. Every one has fore- fathers, these forefathers have made the history of this country; some day you will be the forefather and your descendants can visualize your life's work quicker through the registration in the Directory of your time than in any other way. The BIOGRAPHICAL HISTORY OF THE MASSES IS CONTAINED IN THE CITY DIRECTORY AND NO OTHER PLACE. That stamps its importance to the family. To make your history, watch your directory registration to see that it accurately records your position in life from year to year.
THE CIRCULATION OF THE CITY DIRECTORY EX- TENDS TO EVERY CITIZEN OF THE CITY. The Infor- mation Bureaus of the City are for FREE public use and your merchant, banker, physician, dentist, hotel and restaurant and garage man expect that the masses of the people shall without hesitation ask for a look at the City Directory.

Industrial Cambridge
Industry in Cambridge is almost as old as education. Here the first printing press in the Colonies started, and the birth of the great publishing industry was here. The first center aisle passenger coach was produced here. Great glass-ware factories employed 500 as early as 1850.
RAILROADS SERVE INDUSTRY IN CAMBRIDGE
As an industrial center Cambridge is in the pioneer class. At the very beginning of the settlement of the Colonies industry settled along the Charles River to take ad- vantage of water transportation facilities. Here the first printing press in the Colonies started, and the birth of the great publishing industry was here. The first center aisle passenger coach was produced here. Great glass-ware factories employed 500 as early as 1850.
As Cambridge took a leading place in the making of history in the early days of America it is so doing today at an accelerated pace, and today its industrial greatness is not to be denied. Cambridge ranks third in industry among the cities of New England.
The rapid advance of Cambridge industrially came with improvement in trans- portation, and the reclamation of two square miles of tide covered low lands in the city. These two factors have had much to do with the growth of industrial Cam- bridge. The transition to an Industrial City began in 1870, when the reclaiming of the low lands began. There are now nearly 500 manufacturing concerns employing nearly 22,000 workers, and having as annual wage disbursement of nearly $00,000,000. The products amount to $185,000,000 per annum. Cambridge stands first in the country as a confectionery center, and very prominent in the manufacture of soap bread, and other bakery products, printing and publishing, rubber goods, rubber boots and shoes, electrical machinery, apparatus and supplies, foundry and machine shop products, furniture, dictionaries, transformers and radio apparatus, oil burners and over 500 other products which are too numerous to be mentioned in this limited space. For further details on products see page 11.
Cambridge offers great advantages to industrialists. It has everything to work with in labor market, transportation and facilities. There is a customer market of 30 million within 500 miles. Water transportation will deliver Cambridge-made products to Pacific coast and Mississippi river points at a lower rate than land trans- portation of 500 miles.
For further information about Industrial Cambridge write the Cambridge In- dustrial Association, or the Publishers of this Directory.
