Pursuant to adjournment the inhabitants of the town of Norwood, qualified to vote in elections, met in Village Hall, in said town, on Monday, April 5th, A. D., 1909, and Section three, of Article one, of the By-Laws, having been complied with were called to order by the Moderator, at seven-thirty P. M., in the evening.

Article 2. On motion by Mr. F. A. Morrill.


Voted-That the report of the Auditors on the Selectmen's, Treasurer's, Tax Collector's, Water Commissioners', Sewer Commissioners', Municipal Light Board's, and Cemetery Com- missioners' accounts be accepted.


Article 3. On motion by Mr. James A. Halloran.


Voted-That the report of various town officers be accepted as printed in the Town Report, year ending January 31st, 1909.


Article 7. On motion by Mr. Frank A. Allen.


Section 1. Voted-That the sum of three thousand ($3,000) dollars be raised and appropriated for the support of the Morrill Memorial Library.

Section 2. Voted-That the sum of two hundred ($200) dollars be raised and appropriated for the use of George K. Bird Post, No. 169, Grand Army of the Republic, for the purpose of decorating soldiers' graves on Memorial Day.


Section 3. On motion by Mr. A. A. Appleby.


Voted-That the sum of three thousand eight hundred (3,8oo) dollars be raised and appropriated for the support of the Fire Department the ensuing year.


Section 4. On motion by Mr. A. A. Appleby.


Voted-That the sum of three hundred ($300) dollars be raised and appropriated for the support of the Fire Alarm System the ensuing year.


Section 5. On motion by Mr. A. A. Appleby.


Voted-That action on this section be deferred until such time as the Fire Department shall make a careful test of all its hose and report back to this committee the result of such test.

Voted-That the sum of forty-five thousand, four hundred ($45,400) dollars be raised and appropriated for the support of the schools the ensuing year, namely :

Voted-That the sum of fifty ($50) dollars be raised and appropriated for the expense of children at the Truant school.

Section 9. On motion by Mr. Frank E. Everett.


Voted-That the sum of seven hundred ($700) dollars be raised and appropriated to meet the expense of the Board of Health.


Section 10. On motion by Mr. Frank E. Everett.


Voted-That the sum of twelve hundred ($1200) dollars be raised and appropriated to be expended in trimming and care of shade trees the current year, namely : Trimming of trees, none ; suppression of Gypsy Moth, Brown Tail and Elm Beetle, $1200, and that the tree warden when entering upon private property for the suppression of these moths, collect from such owners the full cost allowed by law.


Section II. On motion by Mr. Frank E. Everett.


Voted-That the sum of two hundred ($200) dollars be raised and appropriated for the prosecution of illegal sales of liquor.


Section 12. On motion by Mr. Frank E. Allen.


Voted-That the sum of four thousand ($4,000) dollars be raised and appropriated for the repairs of highways, culverts and bridges the ensuing year.


Section 13. On motion by Mr. Frank E. Allen.


Voted-That the sum of one thousand ($1,000) dollars be raised and appropriated for building sidewalks and setting edge- stones the current year, this to include new work and repairs.


Section 14. On motion by Mr. James A. Hartshorn.


Voted-That the sum of five hundred ($500) dollars be raised and appropriated for paving gutters the ensuing year.


Section 15. On motion by Mr. Frank E. Allen.

Voted-That the sum of two hundred ($200) dollars be raised and appropriated to be expended in sanding sidewalks during winter months, and the sand be well screened.

Voted that the sum of fifty ($50) dollars be raised and ap- propriated for street signs.

Voted-That the sum of one thousand ($1,000) dollars be raised and appropriated to be expended in operating stone crusher for the present year.

Voted-That the sum of twelve hundred ($1200) dollars be raised and appropriated for watering or using other dust lay- ing material (watered or treated) for streets the ensuing year, and that one-half of the cost be assessed on the abutters on the streets watered or treated.

Voted-That no money be appropriated for band concerts this year.

Voted-That the sum of forty-five ($45) dollars be raised and appropriated for painting and repairing hose house No 2; $15 for painting hose wagon No. 2; $75 for moving hydrants and setting new hydrants. Total, $135.

Voted-That the sum of two thousand, five hundred ($2.500) dollars be raised and appropriated for the maintenance of the Sewer Department the present year, namely : Salary of super- intendent, $1,200; incidentals, $1,300.

Voted-That the sum of twelve thousand, five hundred ($12,500) dollars be raised and appropriated for the operation, maintenance, repairs, interest on notes, amount for depreciation and new construction work of the Municipal Light Department for the ensuing year, as follows :

Voted that the sum of three thousand five hundred and forty ($3,540) dollars be appropriated from the Sewer Commis- sioners' Treasury for the purpose of extending the sewer system from Washington street through Winter street as far as Bullard street, and from Bullard street as far as Beacon street ; provided, however, that said sum is available in the treasury after taking care of the appropriation recommended in Article 12.

Voted-That the sum of three thousand four hundred ($3,- 400) dollars be appropriated from the Sewer Commissioners' Treasury for the purpose of extending the sewer system in Chapel street as far as the Winslow school.

In the name of the Commonwealth of Massachusetts, you are hereby required to notify and warn the inhabitants of the Town of Norwood, qualified to vote in elections and town af- fairs, to assemble in Village Hall, in said town, on Monday, the fifth day of April, A. D. 1909, at seven fifteen o'clock in the afternoon, then and there to act on the following articles, namely :


Article 1. To see if the town will vote to renew or re- fund the loan of seven thousand three hundred ($7,300) dollars authorized by votes under articles 4, 5, 6 and 7 of the warrant for the town meeting held May 11th, 1908, and under articles 2, 3, 4, 5, 6, 7, 8, 9, 10 of the warrant for the town meeting held July 7th, 1908, on its note dated January 30th, 1909, and maturing December 30th, 1909, or any part thereof, or take any action whatsoever in regard to said loan, and to re- voke the action taken directing the payment of said loans from the taxes to be assessed in the year 1909.


Article 2. That the sum of five hundred ($500.00) dol- lars be raised and appropriated for the purpose of employing a landscape gardener or civil engineer to make a plan for grad- ing and beautifying the land purchased for a playground. situ- ated south of the Edmund J. Shattuck School, and to carry into effect as far as the appropriation will allow, the plan of said landscape gardener or civil engineer, said money to be ·


used under the direction of the committee appointed at the April meeting, 1908.

To either of the Constables of the Town of Norwood, in said county :


GREETING :


In the name of the Commonwealth of Massachusetts, you are hereby required to notify and warn the inhabitants of the Town of Norwood, qualified to vote in elections and town af- fairs, to assemble in Village Hall, in said Town, on Thursday, the twenty-first day of October, A. D. 1909, at eight o'clock in the afternoon, then and there to act on the following articles, namely :


Article 1. To see if the town will vote to raise and ap- propriate or borrow the sum of four hundred ($400) dollars or any other sum to be paid to the Assessors as additional compensation for services rendered during the current year.

Article 2. To see if the town will vote to raise and ap- propriate or borrow the sum of five hundred ($500) dollars or any other sum to be expended in addition to the amount heretofore raised and appropriated for the repair of highways during the current year.


Article 3. To see if the town will vote to raise and ap- propriate or borrow the sum of five hundred ($500) dollars or any other sum to be used in addition to the amount hereto- fore raised and appropriated for defraying the incidental and other necessary expenses not otherwise provided for during the current year.


Article 4. To see if the town will vote to raise and ap- propriate or borrow the sum of fifty ($50) dollars to be paid to Michael J. Hennessey in addition to the amount heretofore raised and appropriated for land damage resulting from the relocation and widening of Cross street or take any other action in the matter.
