BAPTISMS FROM THE CHURCH RECORDS.

The records of baptism which follow are not complete. Those here given are only (1) the records of persons whose births are not recorded in either the town or the church records of Littleton, or (2) such records as give information additional to that contained in the birth records. When doubt has existed whether the birth recorded is of the same person as the baptism, the baptism is given. The baptisms through the year 1775 are from the earliest existing records of the church, and are evidently in the handwriting of Rev. Daniel Rogers, who was ordained March 15, 1732, and died November 22, 1782. The rest have been taken from the book of church records kept by Rev. Edmund Foster, ordained January 17, 1781, and died March 28, 1826, and Rev. William Hunt White, ordained January 2, 1828, and died July 25, 1853. In this book, which is referred to in the foot-notes as "the later church book," those records pre- vious to 1826 appear to be in the handwriting of Rev. Mr. Foster, the remainder in the hand of Rev. Mr. White. Those of Mr. Foster's records previous to July 4, 1819, have evidently been copied from an older manuscript, also, as the handwriting would indicate, kept by Mr. Foster, in continuation of the records of Rev. Daniel Rogers. Mr. Foster's records here given have been corrected and supple- mented by the addition of foot-notes based on this older manuscript which, in conjunction with the manuscript of Mr. Rogers, is referred to as " the old church book." Where the two records differ, the preponderance should naturally be given to the older.
