MARRIAGES FROM THE CHURCH RECORDS.

The two sets of marriages which follow are given respectively for two purposes.

First, those from the manuscript of Rev. Daniel Rogers are only of persons whose marriages are not recorded elsewhere in Littleton. The records on pp. 98-100 are from the same source and immediately precede them in the manuscript. Like those on pp. 98-100, they are in the handwriting of Rev. Daniel Rogers. Stars indicate in both cases the omissions made in copying.

Second, those from the manuscript of Rev. Edmund Foster are merely to show discrepancies, where they exist, or give additional information. They are all given elsewhere in the town or church records. They are plainly in most cases in Rev. Mr. Foster's hand. He evidently copied them later into another book, in which he recorded all marriages of a subsequent date, and which is the source of those marriages given on pp. 254-256. This is referred to in the foot-notes as "the later church book." The manuscripts of Rev. Mr. Rogers and Rev. Mr. Foster are together referred to as "the old church book," which should generally have preponderance where differences occur.
