Wheras Thomas Newhall & Joseph Newhall informd the Towne that thay wanted satisfaction for the highway through the Land their father baught that was formerly Mr Humphrys to wit that highway that Leads from Reading to Salem

we the subscribers being apointed by the select Men of Lyn to Lay out a highway from a white oake tree Near Samuell Newhalls Land formerly Ingulses Land have Laid it out two pole wide partly on Samuell Newhalls Land & partly on William Eatons Land beginning at a stake westerly of a white oake tree : so to a heap of stones at a whit oake stump : from thence to a stake : to a black oake stump the way to Ly Easterly of these bounds to Reading Road and the said Eaton & Newhall are satisfyed for the above sd way with a small strip of Land Lying southerly of sd Newhalls Land as witnes their hands

Voted that our Minister Mr. Jerimiah Shepard shall have Eighty pounds of such Mony as Now passes from Man to Man for his Labour in the Ministrey in this present year which will be Vp the Eighth Day of January Next Ensewing : In Lew of the fourscore pounds Voted by the Town the : 2 of March 1680 - 81 and the Contribution to be Kept Vp as heretofore at the same Meeting


Voted Ninty to be assessed on the town {of the Now passable Mony] to pay the schoole Master & to Defrey the Necessary Charges ariseing in the Town

Wheras the body of the Town Complain they are in great want of bulls & all the Means they Can Vse will not obtein them


Therfore Voted that the assessors shall annually at the time of their Makeing the Town Rate assess Each & Every houss holder in the body of the Town : Viz from the great Bridg to Crispas Richardses Including his family : and so Vpwards to Thomas Newhalls from thence to Aquilla Ramsdells in Cluding their families & so from thence to the afore sd Great Bridg : so Dwnwaids to the sea {Exempting only Thomas ffarrar John Hood William Bassett Junr & John Basset so long as thay Maintain a bull for Nahant & No longer ] over & above their Just proportion to the Town Charg Eight pence for Each Ratable Cow which shall be Collected as the other part of said Rate : and the selectmen for the time being to order the Disposeing of so Much as shall be Raised by the Eight pence p Cow for the obteining & Keeping a sutable Number of good bulls for the Vse of the body of the Town as above Described as thay shall from year to year Judg best which bulls shall go at Large

Beit Known Vnto all whom these Presents Doe or May Consern : that in Pursuance of the Law Entitled an act for Regulateing of Townships &C : wherin is Directed that the Bounds between Town & Town be Runn once in three years; Vpon ye Eighteenth Day of April anno Domini : 1711 : at the signe of ye Lamb in Rumney Marsh : Addington Davenport and Edward Huchinson two of the selectmen of ye Town of Boston being accompanied by Elish Tuttle John Brentnal Thomas Berry & Edward Tuttle all Inhabitants within ye Township of Boston afore sd Did Meet with Mr. Edward Baker Thomas Chever & Ebenezer Belcher a Committe in behalfe of the Town of Lyn : and haveing showne to Each other their

Respective orders for Runing the bounds betwixt ye sd Towns of Boston & Lyn they proceeded to ye sd work and began at Bride Brooke where it Runs a Cross ye Roade & from thence went on a NNW Course Nearest by the Compass to an heap of stones on a Rock in Widow Edmundses Land from thence to the stump of an old walnut tree on the West side of a Little hill wher was an heap of stones to which More were added : from thence to a small Black oake in Merriams Land Marked BL and an heap of stones Round it. from thence to an Oak tree standing on Sarah Pauls Land being Marked BL : & an heap of stones Round it : from thence to a Crotcht tree in William Boardmans Land Marked BL . with stons Round it at this tree by a Pocket Compass it was found that the Line Runs a Cross the River & so through the stack of chimneys in ye Now Dwelling house of ye said Boardman : from the said tree a Cross ye River to the body of a walnut tree . Now Dead Marked : XXIII : with an heap of stones Round it : from thence to alarge old oake on the south side of an hill Marked XXIIII and BL . and an heap of stones Round it : from thence to a walnut tree Marked BL . with an heap of stones about it . from thence to an heap of stones on a Rock then to an heap of stones on the brow of an hill ther were three or four More trees well Marked with BL. & heaps of stones Round them betwen the before Mentioned heaps of stones and the Large Decayed white oake which is Marked BL and surrounded with an heap of stones about four Rodd and an halfe from the sd tree and on the Line first Mentioned is the great heap of stones Called the three County heap to which a Considerable addition was Now Made that being the boundery between the Towns of Boston Lyn and Reading - it was this Day also agreed to between the sd selectmen of Boston and the Committe of Lyn that Bride Brook on the Easterly side of the Road as it has allwaies been Esteemed should be the stated bounds between the said Towns Vntil it Runs into the salt water Creek : In testimony of what was Now Done the said select Men and Committe have here Vnto subscribed their Names

To the Inhabitants and propriators of the Township of Lyn : wheras you Did at your Town Meeting Aprill the 15th 1706 : agree to Divid your Town and propriators & to give Every one of them a share : these are therefore to Inform you that I had at the time of your Voate & still have a Considerable tract of Land in your Township in fee of which ther was : 18 : acres or better of Improvd Land within fence some years before your Vote Intitled all such in your Township to a Division in your Town Common Land : wher Vpon I Doe hereby ask & DeMand my Right share

Wheras Mr. Joseph Herrick belonging to Salem Did on the 6th Day of March : 1709/10 : Petition the Town of Lyn for his proportion of Town Common belonging to his Land in our Township : which petition was Read the Day above said and John Pearson John Poole & John Burrill to advise & Doe what thay think is Most proper in that Matter and Make Report to the Town - we the subscribers Report as followeth that on the 10th Day of Aprill : 1710 : we went Vp to sd Mr. Joseph Herricks Land Near to Ipswich River in Lyn wher was the sd Joseph Herrick : and did agree that What Land & Estate the said Herrick Now had in Lyn should go Ratefree for ten years from the : 10th of Aprill afore said and allso what Ratable poles should Live on sd Lands should be Rate free for ten years as above said : and the Town to bare that

that proportion of Rate : and also the said Joseph Herrick Did on his part for him selfe heirs & assignes forever quit Claime to all the Right of Common that Ever Did or Does belong to his said Land in Lyn afore said to which agreement we the sd John Pearson John Poole & John Burrill have set to our hands the 10th of Aprill 1710

certaine in some places wher it Lies : and since a Nother way was Laid over the hills not far of sd way which is so bad that it is hard passing : Therfore we the subscribers Doe agree that if ye selectmen will Lay out a Towne highway of two pole wide begining wher the Last way Laid at Joshua Rhoads his Land & so through the Rhoadses farm as the way is Now Vsed by Eleazer Rhoads his house till it comes to Henry Rhoadses house : and so along Vnder the hill through Mr Wheelers Land & so through the Land formerly old Mr. Divins wher the first way went on the westerly End of his house so on to the other way not far from the gate that then we Doe freely alow so Much Land for sd way as it shall goe through our Land without any satisfaction from ye Town at any time hereafter : provided we are not hindered of Maintaining Gates ( at our own Cost) a Cross said way Lyn Aprill 4th 1712

at a Meeting of the selectnien of Lyn June 17th 1712 John Newhall Clark Lt John Breed Ens John Newhall & John Burrill are apointed to Lay out a highway of two pole wide for a Town Way beginning wher the Last Country Road was Laid at Joshua Rhoads his Land & so through the Rhoadses farm as ye way is Now Vsed & so through Mr. Wheelers Land Vnder ye hill & so through the Land formerly old Mr. Divins as the way was formerly Vsed till it Come to ye way Not far from ye gate as Desired by ye propriators


We the subscribers being apointed by the selectmen of Lyn June 17th 1712 to Lay out a highway of two pole wide as above Exprest : June 25th 1712 we Met at the hous of Eleazer Rhoads and began the Lay out sd way wher ye Last Country Road that Leads to Reading was Laid at Joshua Rhoads his Land wher theris a stake on Each side said way & so throug the Rhoadses farm as ye way is Now Vsed by Eleazer Rhoads his house so to Henry Rhoads his house and so a Long Vnder the hill through Mr. Wheelers Land : & so through ye Land formerly old Mr. Divins wher the first way went on ye westerly End of his house so on to ye other part of the Last Country Road Not far from ye gate the above way we have laid out two pole wide & staked & staked it out in severall places & Laid stones at the stakes

Voted that Nathaniell Collins shall have that peice of Town Common Land that Lyes betwixt the fresh Marsh at the Woodend & Benjamin Collinses Land he paying three pounds to the Town for the same & Leaveing a Convenient highway at all times for them that have ocation for it


October first : 1716 : the above Nathaniel Collins paid 2 == 10 = 0 : of ye above Money & ten shillings before so Now the whole is paid

In answer to the Petition of our Neighbours ye farmers so Cald Dated february 13th 1711 - Desireing to be a Precinct Voted - That all that part of the Town that Lyes on the Northerly side of that highway that Leads from Salem to Reading be set of for a Precinct and when they shall have {a Meeting houss ] and a Minister quallified according to Law settled to preach the word of God a Mongst them then they to be wholly freed from paying to the Ministrey in the Town and not before : and if after-
