The Post Office is in the Merchants' Exchange, in State street. The City Delivery is under the superintendence of Mr. Edwin C. Bailey. The Forwarding Department is under the Superintend- ence of Mr. Nathaniel Melcher. Edward S. Erv- ing, Esq. is Cashier. From the first of April to the first of October, the office is open from 7 A. M. to 7 P. M. From October to April, from 8 A. M. to 7 P. M. On Sundays, from 9 to 10 A. M.


There are eight Penny Posts, and letters are de- livered to all persons in the city who desire so to receive them.

Southern Mail closes daily at 3% o'clock, P. M. Eastern Mail closes daily at 1}% P. M.


Albany and other mails on the route, at 5 A. M. Cape Cod and Nantucket Mail closes at 5 P. M. Northern Mail closes at 5 A. M.


English Mail, by Steamships, on days of sailing, at 10% A. M.

FOREIGN MAILS.


A mail is forwarded to and received from Eng- land, via Halifax, Nova Scotia, by the British Mail Packets, on the 1st and 16th, for eight months in the year, and once a month for the four winter months. Mails for Calcutta and all other Foreign Ports are sent as often as opportunities occur. The postage on Ship Letters, delivered at the office where the vessel arrives, is 6 cents ; if conveyed by post, 2 cents in addition to the ordi- nary postage. The Foreign Postage on Letters to any part of Great Britain, or the Continent, can be prepaid at this Office.
