V. B. PALMER'S NEWSPAPER AGENCY.
A complete List of the Newspapers of all the cities | of the principal points from Maine to Georgia. and towns in the United States, British Prov- inces, &c., embracing more than twelve hundred, for which V. B. Palmer is the Agent, duly appoint- ed and authorized to receive subscriptions and advertisements, may be seen at his Country News- paper Advertising Agency, No. 20 State street.
The convenience which this Agency presents to papers, by enabling them to centre their business in the hands of one person, is only exceeded by the accommodation which it affords to the commu- nity, of transacting business at any number of places, no matter how remote from each other, Through this Agency persons may subscribe for through this medium. It is only necessary, in any number of Newspapers, either for their own forder to comprehend the great importance of the use, or for Libraries, Public Institutions, &c., and procure them at the publishers' prices.
Merchants, Manufacturers, and Traders, as well as Seminaries and Public Institutions generally, can advertise in any number of the best papers of any or all the cities and towns of all the States of the Union, Canada, &c., at the same rates as are demanded at the offices of the respective papers, and obtain of the Agent all requisite informa- tion to enable them to adopt a safe, judicious, and thorough system of advertising upon either a large or small scale, adapted to their pursuits.
Cards embracing a complete list of the cities and towns, cost of advertising, &c., may be had gratis at the Agency, No. 20 State street, in this city, and at his offices in the cities of New York, Phila- delphia, and Baltimore, where he is also empow- ered to receive subscriptions and advertisements.
From the National Intelligencer, Nov. 29, 1844.
Mr. V. B. PALMER, American Newspaper and Advertising Agent in the cities of Baltimore, Phil- adelphia, New York, and Boston, has been appoint- ed agent for receiving and forwarding subscriptions and advertisements for this paper, at his offices, in those cities respectively.
The General Newspaper Agency, established by Mr. Palmer, in the above places, has been in ex- istence some time, and will doubtless be found convenient and advantageous for all newspaper proprietors who shall think fit to avail themselves of it. The annexed notice of Mr. P. and his en- terprise, we copy from the N. Y. Tribune.
" The idea of a concentration of the Newspaper offices of the United States in the person of one individual, originated with Mr. Palmer, who is now the Agent and efficient representative of the pro- prietors of some of the best newspapers of most |
enterprise, to survey the extent, population, and business relations of our wide-spread country - and to those who would embrace the facilities for extending business which this agency offers, it is only requsite to know what we have long known, that by education, habits of business, and good character, Mr. Palmer is peculiarly fitted for the undertaking - and deserves, what he will no doubt secure, a due reward for his enterprise-which is both original and highly meritorious."
The Louisville Democrat speaks thus of Mr. Palmer's Agency :
" Having the most unlimited confidence in his capacity and integrity, he is fully authorized to make all necessary contracts as Agent for this paper. We wish it to be distinctly understood, that we have no other Agent in any of the cities of New York, Philadelphia, Boston, or Baltimore, and that all inquiries relative to such contracts, coming from these cities, even although directed to ourselves, will be referred to his Agency."
The business of advertising is imperfectly under- stood by merchants generally. Mr. Palmer's great experience and extensive agencies enable him to give very important information and very valuable suggestions in these matters, to all who may favor him with an interview. The subject, as presented by him, is certainly worthy the serious attention of all persons engaged in active business. N. Y. Tribune.

In Summer, Trains leave Boston usually 3 times A.M., 5 times P.M., and arrive at Bos- ton the same number of times.
A Season Ticket, not transferable, and payable in advance, is given for Three Months, at the price of 50 single tickets, or at $1.00 per mile. Between Boston and Woburn a discount of 10 per cent. from this rate is made on a ticket for a year. Between Boston and stations north of Woburn a dis- count of 20 per cent. is made on a ticket for a year, and of 10 per cent. for six months.
A Season Ticket entitles a person to carry nothing but strictly personal baggage, or such parcels as may be taken in the hand, without incommoding other passengers. Other articles, or merchandise, are not to be taken as baggage, except at the discretion of the Conductor, and by paying extra.
Package Tickets are sold, to Woburn, South Woburn, and Medford, in lots of not less than 50 whole ones, or 100 half ones, and with any proportion of the two kinds, at three-fourths the cost of Single Tickets. Season and Package Tickets are allowed at half price for children under 12 years of age, and persons attending school. Package Tickets are taken in any train, and at any time. Season Tickets may also be used in any train, and allow any number of daily passages. On the arrival of every train, an Omnibus leaves the Depot for the Old South Church ; and fifteen minutes before the departure of every train leaves the Old South Church for the Depot. Fare 64 cents, and 20 tickets for $1.00.
