The church register of St. Andrews in the village of Brough- ton, England, verifies the names of John Beebe and his children, who emigrated to this country about 1650, as stated in his will on file in Hartford, Conn. Probably ninety-nine per cent. of the Beebes in this country descended from the three sons of John of Broughton. They landed in Boston, made their way to New London, Conn., branching in all directions from there.
Individuals of the name were prominent in King Philip's War, many of them were "minute men" in 1776, and became soldiers and officers in the Revolution, as the pension rolls show fourteen spellings of the name.

Daniel Brewer,3 a clergyman, son of Daniel,2 was born in 1668. He married Catherine Chauncey. They had eight chil- dren.
Isaac Brewer,4 son of Rev. Daniel,? was born in Springfield, Mass., in 1713, and died in 1788. He married first, in 1736, Mary Bliss, who died in 1759. They settled in Wilbra- ham. Children: Mary," Eunice," Katherine,5 Isaac,5 William,5 Charles," O. S., Gaius.5
Isaac Brewer," son of Isaac, was born Aug. 17, 1742, and died July 21, 1788. He came to Ludlow about 1772 and settled on the Lawrence place. He married, Dec. 17, 1762, Sybil Miller, born in 1747, died in 1834, daughter of Joseph and Catherine ( Ferry) Miller. (See Miller Gen.) (Isaac,5 when he died, left ten children, the twelfth child being born after his death. The widow held the farm, paying off the large amount of debts and giving her son Pliny a collegiate education. All the Brewers now in town are descendants of the son Chaun- cey.) Children :

Nathaniel Browning,1 the founder of the family in New England, was born in London, England, about 1618. His mother, Elizabeth Browning, was born about 1599; she was mar- ried about 1615. There were two children: Samuel,

born in 1615, and Nathaniel, who came to America in 1640 and landed in Boston, then proceeded to Ports- mouth, R. I. The first mention of Nathaniel in Rhode Island was in 1645, when he purchased a house and lands. He married about 1650, Sarah Freeborn, daugh- ter of William Freeborn of Portsmouth. In 1654, Nathaniel was made a freeman. They had two chil- dren :

Jane,2 born about 1655. She married James Sweet and they had eight children.
