REPORT OF THE DRAWING SUPERVISOR.
Milford, Mass., Jan. 8, 1918.
Mr. Almorin O. Caswell,
Superintendent of Schools.
Dear Sir :
The course in drawing now includes not only actual drawing, but also paper cutting, printing, costume designing, stenciling, and other crafts, as well as the study of home decoration.
Modeling in plasticine, and the making of plaster-of- Paris casts from models, is a new departure in art training in the High school. This is valuable in teaching pupils to consider the three dimensions of objects. Senior and junior pupils are obtaining creditable results with these hitherto unused materials.
More time will eventually have to be devoted to mechanical drawing in the High school, as the number of young men students who are preparing to enter technical schools is increasing.
The opening of the Stacy School has been an aid in obtaining more uniform results in the higher grades, as children from different districts are now mingled in the various rooms, and there is also friendly rivalry among the pupils of the same grades.
The work in the lower grades has progressed along the same general lines as usual, and conscientious efforts have secured satisfactory results. Each year increases my sense of obligation to the teachers for their earnest co-operation.
In conclusion :- I wish to express to you, and to the members of the School Committee, my gratitude for your kindness during the past year.
Respectfully submitted,
GENEVIEVE M. TOOHEY. Supervisor of Drawing.
REPORT OF THE MILITARY INSTRUCTOR.
Milford, Mass., January 8, 1918. Mr. Almorin O. Caswell,
Superintendent of Schools.
Dear Sir :--
The Milford High School Cadets have been organized as a Battalion and three Companies of Infantry. The Instructor is acting as Major, and all other Field and Line Officers and Non-Commissioned Officers have been selected from the Cadets. There is also a detachment consisting of one squad of Signal Corps and one Squad of Hospital Corps, with a First Sergeant in command.
Instruction has been given in accordance with the U. S. Army Drill Regulations, up to and including the School of the Company. A few simple Battalion movements have been practiced.
It is hoped to give further instruction in Ceremonies, including Guard-Mounting. Fscort to the Colors, and Battalion Parade and Inspection, with the object of familiarizing the Cadets with the more general features of Army routine.
It is also hoped to hold a Prize Drill later in the year, at which a Color Company will be chosen, and allowed the honor of escorting our Flag on all public occasions.
Respectfully submitted,
\V. S. CLARKE, Instructor.

REPORT OF THE SCHOOL PHYSICIANS.
TO THE SCHOOL . COMMITTEE, MILFORD, MASS. :-
In the appended tables we have attempted to give an idea of the number of physical defects found among the children of our schools. To show how large a proportion of the pupils are suffering from these defects, we have presented some per- centages, and the result may prove startling to you ; but it is surely not any more distressing than actual individual inspec- tion of the children fully warrants However, parents are be- coming more interested in the school inspection work, and many children have been greatly benefited by medical, surgi- cal or dental treatment suggested by the notification cards which are sent home after each inspection.

The services of a school nurse would immensely increase the value of the work by following up the notices with a per- sonal interview with the parents.
It is a pitiful sight to encounter the same defective chil- dren year after year in the many cases where parents are willing but unable to provide the medical or dental treatment, the glasses or the operation which would so much improve the child mentally and physically, and afford it so much better equipment for the great battle of life.
Respectfully, JOHN M. FRENCH, M. D. JOHN V. GALLAGHER, M. D. School Physicians.

As we stand on the threshold of life's open door Through which we so soon must depart,
We are stopping a moment to greet you once more Ere we go on our way with sad heart.
For four short years we have labored and played, Which to us seem a day in review,
So we'll always our fondest remembrance display To our dear Alma Mater so true.
Farewell to our teachers and classmates we say Whom no longer we'll meet as of yore, But we'll work for success as the hours flit away And attain the bright heights we adore. Now the class of seventeen is prepared for its work Through the efforts of teachers so kind, But even success cannot make us forget Our dear Alma Mater so fine.
