An electric Telemeter, indicating and recording every two inch change in the level of the water in the reservoir, has been installed.

Sewers.

During 1902, 1448.06 feet of sewer and 826 feet of under- drain was laid, as follows : Abbot Street 1099.55 feet of sewer, 826 feet of underdrain ; Harding Street 348.51 feet of sewer.

46 applications for house connections were received and 46 connections laid. Length of connections laid during year, 3163 feet.

Total number of applications received to date, 386.

Total number of connections in service, 367.

Total length of house connections, 23,959 feet, 4.538 miles.

The works are in good condition, the only special expense to be met during the coming year will be for repairs on boiler No. 2, which are now being made. The cleaning and renewing of the old cement lined service pipes will soon become a factor in the operation of the Water Department ; no serious expense is liable to be incurred on this account, however, during 1903. The operation of the new water

rates appears to have given general satisfaction. While the rendering of the bills quarterly increases the cost of meter reading and clerical work, the increased cost is fully compen- sated for by the gain in the efficiency of the meter system and the satisfaction of the consumers.

Respectfully submitted, JOHN E. SMITH.
