Town Hall
Braintree, April 7, 1924.
The Town met in accordance with adjournment from March 31st, Moderator Rogers in the chair.
The committee appointed at the last meeting, to present Resolutions : on the death of George Henry Holbrook, re- ported as follows :
George Henry Holbrook was born in Braintree, April 12, 1852, and lived more than the allotted time of three score and ten years, passing away on the 10th day of September, 1923.
He was married in Braintree, October 27, 1875, to Sadie E. Newcomb of this Town. Seven children were born to them, of which the widow and four children Alfred H., Irving N., Mrs. Irene Drollett, and Clara N. M., survive him.
He has been a building contractor for many years and many of the best buildings in this and surrounding towns testify to his ability in that line.
In 1914 he was elected a member of the Board of Select- men and at the time of his death was Chairman of the Board.
George Henry Holbrook was an unassuming man, never aggressive, but his ability and strict honesty, whether in private business or public affairs, was recognized and fully appreciated by his fellow-citizens.
Therefore, be it resolved that, in the death of George Henry Holbrook the town has lost the services of a faithful, concientious and honest public official; that the community has been deprived of a man, the memory of whose life and example, will tend to the uplifting of coming generations ; that his family have lost a loving father and the widow a life- long companion, and his friends a genial and staunch friend.
47
May the memory of his upright life and the high esteem in which he was held by all who know him, be some consola- tion to his family in their bereavement.
Resolved : that these resolutions be spread upon the rec- ords of the Town of Braintree and a copy sent to the family of George H. Holbrook.
