A connection with the Parkway should be built across from Granite Street north of West Street.
Dangerous corners at junction of Tremont St. and Central Ave. also at corner of Washington St. and Summer St. should be eliminated.
Traffic signals and lights should be installed at other dangerous corners.
Relative to sidewalks:
The town by a special appropriation built one the whole length of Franklin Street on the east side after the State Highway Commission had widened the street.
The town also built a walk on Washington Street in Braintree Highlands. This should also have been by a special appropriation.
Permanent walks were built on Commercial Street also on Holbrook Avenue and on Washington Street near Storr's Square.
A sum of money should be appropriated each year to continue building permanent sidewalks in each section of the town connecting with those already built.
186
A special appropriation should be made to widen street and build a permanent walk in front of the Town Hall and Public Library.
Washington Street should be laid out and widened from Union Street to Summer Street on the west side before the new bank building is built on the Summer Street corner. A sidewalk should be built on Plain St. near River bridge.
The town should again consider the recommendation for dumping waste material also for removing old trees and planting new ones on our highways and in our parks. It also should appropriate a sum of money each year for plans until a complete set is acquired.
Realizing the growing importance of the Planning. Board the town on recommendation of its By-law committee voted to increase the number of members of this board from three to five. This change takes effect at the coming elec- tion. To be consistent they should have made the number of members three or a multiple thereof, as all other Boards in the town are. Auto traffic regulations were omitted in these By-laws.
We again recommend that the town provide for suitable traffic regulations by our Police Department. The safety of our citizens demands some rules for the regulation of auto- traffic.
Respectfully submitted CHARLES O. MILLER, Chairman, MERTON L. EMERSON, JAMES W. COLBERT,
Members of the Planning Board.

BOARD OF PARK COMMISSIONERS BRAINTREE, MASS.
Precinct 1.
French's Common-Has been mowed and raked during the summer, and kept in good shape for various sports. A new base ball back stop was erected. New foot ball goal posts were placed in position for foot ball. In the grove the swings have been kept in good order and the sand boxes filled. The past summer more children were at this play- ground than ever before. And every night and Saturday afternoons base ball was played and was attended by over 500 every night also on Saturdays 1000 enjoyed this sport. A quoit court has been installed in the grove and every evening during the summer a large number enjoy this game. A band stand has been purchased and will be placed in the middle of the grove the coming summer. The drinking fountain has been kept in good order and was enjoyed by all who attend this playground.
At Hollingsworth Park-Has been mowed, bushes cut, and kept in condition for sports.
PRECINCT 2.
Work on the diamond is progressing very satisfactorily. We hope to complete it during the coming year.
The Hollis Field Association contributed $900.00 for improvement on the field this year, and have also voted what money they have in the treasury, (about $900.00) to be spent in 1925.
We need about $2,000.00 to grade and finish the play- ground.
The grounds have been mowed and cleaned, sand boxes filled, and other improvements made for the children dur- ing the summer months.
188
Precinct 3.
Park and Recreation Department.
Much time has been given during the past season to the care of the children in Precinct 3. Through the courtesy of one of the organizations in Braintree it was possible this year to procure new bamboo slides, teeter boards and sand boxes which were placed on the waterfront Playground.
Due and proper attention was given to the other play- grounds, the grass was mowed and kept in condition. In addition, a young lady instructor was furnished who made it pleasant for the children at all times and from the gen- eral comments on all sides it is fair to assume that this particular feature was a step in the right direction.
Acting in compliance with instructions given at the last town meeting, disposal has been made of the property on the waterfront. These buildings have been sold and one of them already torn down.
Respectfully submitted,
Signed : LAWRENCE A. TRAINOR, ALBERT F. HOLLIS, JOHN N. RODGERS,

REPORT OF THE WATER COMMISSIONERS
As required by Sec. 2 of Art. 3 of the Town By-Laws The Board of Water Commissioners submit herewith the Annual report of the Department for the year ending Dec. 31, 1924.
The year has been one of unusual activity and owing to the continued favorable weather, we were able to carry on the work of installation of new services up to about De- cember 1st. resulting in the addition of 214 new services during the year and 36 old services have been renewed.
Under Art. 56 of the Annual Meeting in 1922 the amount of $4,478.10 was appropriated to complete the 6" main on Plain Street from Grove Street to the dead end at Nelson's farm, but owing to the urgent call for improve- ments in other localities, it was carried over to this year with the same appropriation. The work has now been com- pleted at a cost of $5,105.65. The additional expense was occasioned by the increased cost of labor and material.
Under Art. 71 of the Annual Meeting in 1924, the amount of $2,075.88 was appropriated to extend the 6" main on Hollingsworth Avenue. This estimate was based on an extension of 900 feet but in completing the work it was found necessary to use 1020 feet of pipe and the cost of this extension was $2,389.78.
Under Art. 72. The amount of $3,260.08 was appro- priated to complete the connection on Brookside Road. This estimate was based on an extension of 1430 feet more or less and it was found necessary to cover 2308 feet making the cost considerably more than the estimate or $5,085.81. This work has been completed and has very materially add- ed to the security of a locality that has long been consid- ered insufficiently protected and it also gives the East part of the Town an additional source of supply.
196
Under Art. 74. To see if the Town will vote to raise and appropriate a sum of money to extend the Main on Liberty Street from present dead end near residence of Samuel F. Hawes to a point near Peach Street. It was voted to appropriate $8,000.00 to make the said extension of about 3600 feet. Work was commenced on the southerly end near S. F. Hawes and carried through for a distance of 1480 feet a little more than one-third of the distance at a cost of $3,930.57 and in the opinion of your Commissioners, it was. not thought wise to continue the remainder of the way dur- ing the present year, as the cost would be so much in ex- cess of the amount appropriated, and no other consumers would be benefited for the remaining distance.
Under Art. 76. To see if the Town would vote to ap- propriate a sum of money to extend the main on Commer- cial Street from the dead end to the Quincy line, it was voted that no action be taken and the entire matter be referred to the Water Board. Arrangements are being made by your Board with the City of Quincy and the Metropolitan Water District Commission by which it is believed the residents in the locality of Penn's Hill on Commercial Street will receive a sufficient supply at a very little expense to the Town.
Under Art. 79. It was voted to appropriate $9,100.00 to extend the main on West Street from present location to a point at the residence of Albert A. Drollett. No work has been attempted on this line pending a final decision on the lay out of West Street as a Boulevard connecting with the Park System, which involves changes in grades and bounds. Your Commissioners consider however that the work should be no further delayed and propose to proceed with the construction of this line, due consideration to be given to the grades and bounds shown by the new survey. It is further proposed to continue this line through to the Great Pond Station and substitute an 8" main for the 6" main formerly contemplated, in order to provide an ad- ditional feeder for the system, available in case of a break
197
in the present feeder, cut down the friction head on the pump and use to the fullest extent a line which will return very little revenue in proportion to the expense involved if not so utilized.
For the further protection of the Water Supply, the Joint Board of Braintree, Randolph, and Holbrook pur- chased a strip of land on the borders of Great Pond in March last, the purchase price being $3,500.00 apportioned equally between the three towns.
Several new developments have been started located as follows :
Water Front at East Braintree by D. Arthur Brown on Edgehill Road.
Off Quincy Avenue by Alan L. Wingate on Edgemont Road and Bickford Road.
Brow Avenue off Academy Street by Mrs. Cecilia Brow.
Ellsmere Hedges off West Street by Mrs. Helen M. Ellsworth.
All of the work on these locations has been done under the supervision of the Water Department and at the ex- pense of the Promotors.
Relocation of the bridge on Adams Street by the High- way Department necessitated changes in location of water pipes causing an expense to the Department of $569.98.
Changes at Capen's Bridge, Adams St. Bridge, and Plain St. Bridge made it necessary to install new coverings to prevent freezing at a total cost of $694.00.
Widening and relocation of street lines have been made during the year on Washington and Franklin Streets which required the removal and relocation of a number of hydrants the expense of which this Department had to assume as no provision had been made in the appropriation made for the changes.
198
The Commissioners think that when any changes are under contemplation by the Town in which the Water Sys- tem is likely to be required to make any changes, they should be called into consultation and allowed to present an estimate of the probable expense to the Department which should be included in any appropriation made for the work under contemplation.
The Department has been put to considerable expense by the malicious mischief of parties visiting Sunset Lake during the bathing season. Many panes of glass have been broken in the Pumping Station and slates have been torn off the roof and broken and many acts have been committed creating a very unsanitary condition in and around the Sta- tion. These mischievous actions have taken place when no- body in authority was around to detect the guilty ones. The attention of the Board of Health was called to the unsani- tary conditions but no remedy was suggested by that Board and the Commissioners believe the only way to overcome these troubles is to have an Officer with authority to act detailed to police the grounds about the Lake and Station while the bathing season is on.
