Article 43. To see what distribution the Town will vote to make of the income of the Thayer Fund.

Article 45. To see what sums of money the Town will vote to raise and appropriate to meet the payment of certain bills contracted prior to January 1st, 1943, or take any action relative thereto.


Article 46. To see if the Town will vote to raise and appropriate a sum of money for the care and maintenance of property acquired by the Town under Tax Title Foreclosure procedure, or take any other action relative thereto.


Article 47. To see if the Town will vote to authorize and direct the Assessors to use any sum or sums of money from Free Cash toward the re- duction of the 1943 tax rate.


Article 48. To see if the Town will vote to raise and appropriate a sum of money in addition to sums of mone y already appropriated, to cover the Town's share for materials, trucking and other necessary expenditures in connection with W. P. A. activities or other Special Aid projects in conjunction with State or Federal Government; or take any action relative thereto.


Article 49. To see if the Town will vote to amend Article 5, Section 2 of the Town By-Laws, by striking out of said section the provision "and shall cause a copy of said report to be left at each occupied hotel, dwelling house and tenement, seven days at least before the date of holding such meeting", and substituting therefor the provision "and shall cause copies of said report to be destributed to each registered voter of the Town who shall apply therefor at the office of the Selctmen."


Article 50. To. see if the Town will vote to amend Article 1, Section 2 of the By-Laws, by substituting therein the words "eight o'clock in the morning" for "six o'clock in the morning"; and eight o'clock in the evening" for seven o'clock in the evening"; and by striking out the fol- lowing provision "except that in the case of primaries, the polls may be closed not earlier than two o'clock in the afternoon."


Article 51. To see if the Town will vote to raise and appropriate a sum of money for the erection of a suitable Temporary Honor Roll of the men in the armed services of the United States during the current war con- flict; or take any action relative thereto.

Article 52. To see what action the Town will take to provide a pro- gram for Post-War rehabilitation, and or reconstruction.


Article 53. ON PETITION. To see if the Town will vote to accept Section 103 of Chapter 41, General Laws, providing for the establishing of a Purchasing Department, or take any other action relative thereto.


Article 54. ON PETITION. To see if the Town will vote to amend the following By-Law :-


Article 1. Section 2. "The polls shall be opened not later than six o'clock in the morning and shall close not earlier than seven o'clock in the evening. This provision shall also apply to all lections and primaries un- less otherwise provided by law, except that in case of primaries, the polls may be closed not later than two o'clock in the afternoon," so that it will read as follows :-


"The polls shall be opened at nine o'clock in the morning and shall close at eight o'clock in the evening."


"This provision shall also apply to all elections and primaries un- less otherwise provided by law."


Article 55. To see if the Town will vote to raise and appropriate a sum of money for the purchase and installation of Sorens, or other Air Raid Warning Devices for Air Raid Alarms; or take any action relative thereto.


Article 56. ON PETITION. To see if the Town will vote to abandon its easement for sewer purposes in the land of Charles F. Buckley lying between the Northerly line of Union Street and the Southerly line of the underpass, in accordance with General Laws, Chapter 40, Section 15; or take any action relative thereto.


Article 57. To see what sum or sums of money the Town will vote to appropriate for the use of the State Guard Unit, said sums to be taken from the State Guard Reserve Unit Reserve Fund; or take any other action relative thereto.


Article 58. To see if the Town will vote to amend its By-Laws by pro- viding that the Collector of Taxes shall collect, under the title of Town Collector, all accounts due the Town, in accordance with Section 38A, Chap- ter 41, General Laws; or take any action relative thereto.


Article 59. To see if the Town will vote to appropriate a sum of money to maintain and repair the old East Braintree Fire Station on Allen Street; or take any action relative thereto.


You are directed to serve this Warrant by posting true and attested copies thereof in one or more public places in each Voting Precinct in said Town of Braintree, ten days at least before said first day of March, 1943, and by Publishing the same once each week for two successive weeks in the "Braintree News-Item," the first publication to be at least eight days before said meeting.

The Annual Town Meeting was called to order at 7:55 P. M. by Mod- erator William F. Rogers. The Town Meeting Members were checked on entering, there being 177 present.


Invocation was offered by Reverend Gustave H. Leining.


Town Meeting Members present were duly sworn into office by the Town Clerk, Ernest C. Woodsum.


ARTICLE 1.


Voted: To elect three Measurer of Lumber : Alfred H. Holbrook, Shelley A. Neal and John A. Ryan elected.


Voted: To elect three Measures of Wood and Weighers of Hay: Will- ard P. Sheppard, Walter J. O'Brien and George A. Williams elected.


Voted: To elect seven Trustees of the Braintree School Fund for a term of three years: Morrill R. Allen, James E. Folsom, Arthur L. Hale Roger Lakin, George E. Sampson, George A. Walker and Ralph B. Wood- sum elected.


ARTICLE 2.


Voted: That this Article be taken up in conjunction with all other Articles.


Mr. Connell offered the report of the Committee appointed by the Moderator in March, 1942, to study and report on a parking area in East Braintree. This report is on file in the Town Clerk's office.


Mr. Hunt moved: That the report be received and referred to the next Annual Meeting .- So Voted 8:04.


Mr. Schwab offered the report of the committee appointed under Ar. ticle 62 of the Annual Town Meeting, March 23, 1942, to investigate the advisability of adopting a plan of salary standardization, classification of and rates of compensation for employees of the Town. This report is on file in the Town Clerk's office.


Mr. Connell moved: That the report be accepted as read and that the Moderator be instructed to appoint a Committee of five to continue the work .- Carried 8:11.


ARTICLE 3.


Voted: That the Town Treasurer, with the approval of the Selectmen, be and hereby is authorized to borrow money from time to time in antici- pation of the revenue of the financial year beginning January 1, 1943, and to issue a note or notes therefor, payable within one year, and to renew any note or notes as may be given for a period of less than one year in accordance with Section 17, Chapter .44, General Laws .- Unanimous vote S:13.


ARTICLE 4.


Voted: That the Town Treasurer, with the approval of the Selectmen, be and hereby is authorized to borrow money from time to time in antici- pation of the revenue of the financial year beginning January 1, 1944, and to issue a note or notes therefor, payable within one year, and renew any note or notes as may be given for a period of less than one year in accord- ance with Section 17, Chapter 44, General Laws .- Unanimous vote 8:14.

Voted: To authorize the Treasurer, with the approval of the Selectmen, to borrow money for general municipal purposes under the authority of and in accordance with the provisions of Chapter 49 of the Acts of 1933, as amended .- Unanimous vote 8:15.
