At the last annual town meeting, the selectmen were authorized to purchase a suitable lot for the building of an engine house for the Warren Engine Co. They have attended to that duty and have purchased of Mrs. Mitchell, a lot nearly opposite where the pres- ent house stands. As the making of the deed and payment of the money was not completed at the time of making this report, the land does not appear among the assets of the town. They have also, by the direction of the town, built a large and substan- tial reservoir, at the meeting of East and Cross streets, near the store of L. E. Willcomb, at the cost, (as will be seen by the re- port) of $663.91.
The matter of providing a town pound, to be located near the farm of W. D. Brackett, was left to the discretion of the Select- men. Deeming accommodations of that kind in that locality, to be a public necessity, they have made suitable provision for it by hir- ing land, and enclosing it in a substantial manner,
The whole number of inmates at the farm the past year was 17 ; the average number, 11 ; the present number, 13.
Respectfully submitted,
NATHANIEL R. FARLEY, Selectmen JOSHUA B. GRANT, of
NATHANIEL SHATSWELL, Ipswich.
