IV. Graduation Exercises. HIGH SCHOOL.
The High School for the year has been in charge of the same faithful and earnest worker, Edmund J. Bugbee, and the thousand people who attended the graduating exercises went away more than pleased with what they saw and heard.
The exercises of the afternoon were in charge of Dr. Drake, chairman of the school board, and as the forty-four young men and young ladies marched upon the platform, the scene was one of exceeding beauty and it compared favorably with any in years past. The following is the program of the afternoon :

Rev. J. H. Allen
The address of Prof. Edwin C. Bolles on the " Resources of Education'' was full of valuable thoughts and suggestions and should be a help to the graduates as well as to the teachers and others.
T. William Santary acquitted himself with honor in his salutatory address and was followed with much interest as people picked up the bright sugges- tions.
The Valedictory address by Carl T. Humphrey, will take front rank among suchı productions not only for its composition but for its masterly delivery.
The singing under the direction of A. J. Sidelinger, was a good feature of the afternoon and the school has some fine soloists and a strong chorus.
A large number of scholars and friends tarried in the building during the interval between the afternoon and evening exercises, and refreshments by Bates & Humphrey were enjoyed.
EVENING.
In the evening occurred the final number in the high school life of the members of the class of '01, the class reception. This was perhaps the pret- tiest and most pleasing part of the day's exercises, even if not the most important.
The spacious audience room was again filled and no similar event of the past has been followed with more interest even to the brilliant ball which was the final event of the day.
We might elaborate on decorations and costumes but simply say the class showed good taste in adopting the Dartmouth colors, green and gold, as they presented a charming appearance and the many young ladies had more than a fairy appearance in their graduating costumes.
30
The class were fortunate in having a quartette from their own number, Addie M. McQuinn, Bessie L. Raymond, Theresa L. Donovan and Evelyn L. Blanchard, who rendered "Schubert's Serenade " very finely, and also one who is fast becoming master of the violin, F. Stuart Mason, whose solo was a pleasant feature of the program. The class history given by Miss McGrory was interesting, as reminiscences always are, and it will be of interest in years to come to find how well the prophecies of Mr. Burrell and Miss McEnroe are being fulfilled. After singing the class ode a reception and dance followed and thus closed the exercises of the day, and it only remains to be seen how well their graduation from "School Life " has fitted this class for their entrance into "Life's School."
CLASS ODE.
Words by N. Atherton Richards. Music by J. Carroll.
We're gathered here to say farewell Ere on life's many ways we part ;
Fond thoughts of this eventful day Will always cling in ev'ry heart. Our school-days here we now have ended ; The years when guiding hands have led No more are youth's gay pleasures ours ; The happiest time of life has fied.
CHORUS.
As now we enter on life's struggles, With God alone to guide us right, Let not our strength or courge falter, But strive for vict'ry in the fight.
As now we look into the future, Our hearts are filled with joy and hope, "Though in the coming year we falter, And helpless and unguided grope. Yet in the years which are before us, We ne'er from right can wander far, If ever by youtli's bright ambitions We're led, as by a guiding star. CHORUS.

We are the class of nineteen hundre and e, We're made up of honesty, wisdom andy n. In the web of our lives the fi 'read is spun, But soon o'er it quickly the short years will run. We'll try for the highest, and each thread we spin
Shall be tied with the motto, "To work and to win."
37
If we work with a will we'll soon win our way From lower positions to higher each day ; But if we stop working we surely will stay In our same old positions until we grow gray. We'll conquer temptation, all weakness and sin, And this be our motto, "To work and to win."
