Art. 56. On petition of M. W. Lynch and others, to see if the town will instruct the Board of Selectmen to pay $2.00 a day to all able bodied men for work performed by the town, whether by contract or otherwise, and preference to be given to citizens and tax payers; and that eight hours shall constitute a day's work.
Art. 57. To see if the town will authorize its Selectmen to sell any of the vacant lots of land which it now owns.

ANNUAL TOWN MEETING.
Pursuant to the foregoing warrant, the annual meeting of the inhabitants of the Town of Weymouth was held at Music Hall, Precinct 2, in said Town, on Monday, March 11, 1901, the meeting being called to order at nine o'clock in the forenoon, and the warrant read by the Town Clerk.
Article 1. Louis A. Cook, Esq., was elected Moderator by ballot, the check list being used in the election.
Art. 2. Voted, That the Moderator appoint a committee of five (one from each ward) to retire and nominate all of- ficers not required to be elected by ballot.
The Moderator appointed the following: Thomas H. Vin- cent, T. John Evans, Thomas Fitzgerald, Preston W. Pratt, George L. Wentworth.
Voted, That they report at the afternoon session.
Voted, That any committee appointed to nominate a committee shall not put their own names on the same.
Art. 3. George L. Newton was elected Tree Warden by ballot.
Art. 4. Voted, To accept the reports of the several boards of town officers as printed, also the reports of the Committee on Town Officers, and the Committee on the new school house at Nash's corner.

Art. 6. Voted, That the sum of $1200 be raised and ap- propriated for the transportation of pupils to and from school.
Art. 7. Voted, That the School Committee be instructed to employ a Superintendent of Schools at a salary not ex- ceeding $1400.
Art. S. Voted, That $8000 be raised and appropriated under this article and that all money received from street railway taxes be appropriated for the same purpose.
Art. 9. Voted, That the sum of $14,000 be raised and appropriated for the support of the poor, and that $3.000 be appropriated for the same purpose.
Art. 10. Voted, That the sum of $2,800 be raised and appropriated for the relief of disabled soldiers and sea- men, and the families of disabled soldiers and seamen. un- der Chapter 447 of the Acts of 1890.
Art. 11. Voted, That the sum of $250 be raised and ap- propriated for the payment of State and Military Aid under the provisions of Chapters 372 and 374 of the Acts of 1899, and for burials as provided in Chapter 279 of the Acts of 1896, and that $8,450 be appropriated for the same purpose.
Art. 12. Voted, That the sum of $6,000 be raised and appropriated for the support of the fire department. and

that of this sum $1,000 be expended for the purchase of new hose.
Art. 13. Voted, That $3,000 be raised and appropriated for police service.
Voted, That the Selectmen be instructed not to employ any day Police except on Sundays and Holidays.
The Moderator appointed Walter L. Bates and Francis A. Bicknell as tellers and administered the oath to them.
Voted, That the Selectmen employ three Patrol Men for night work for Wards 2, 3 and 5.
A motion to reconsider the above vote was not carried.
Art. 14. Voted, That the sum of $2250 be raised and appropriated for the Tufts Library, and that one-half the dog tax and the receipts from rents be appropriated for the same purpose.
Art. 15. Voted, That the sum of $500 be raised and ap- propriated for the maintenance of a public reading room at the Fogg Library.
Art. 16. Voted, That the sum of $1,000 be raised and appropriated for abatement and remittance of taxes.
Voted, That when this meeting adjourns it be at 5 o'clock. to meet again on Saturday afternoon next at 2.30 o'clock at Odd Fellows Opera House.
Art. 17. Voted, That the sum of $5,000 be raised and appropriated for the payment of interest that may become due the ensuing year.
Art. 18. Voted, That $1.500 be raised and appropriated for printing and advertising.

Art. 21. Voted, That $700 be raised and appropriated for election expenses.
Art. 22. Voted, That $400 be raised and appropriated for Memorial Day.
Art. 23. Voted, That the article in relation to care and repair of the Town House be laid on the table.
Art. 24. Voted, That the Selectmen be directed to lease for a term of ten years, in behalf of the town of Wey- mouth, the second floor of the building to be erected by the East Weymouth Savings Bank Corporation, the same to be used as offices for the transaction of the town busi- ness, at a rental not to exceed $600.00 per year, including the heating, and that $700.00 be raised and appropriated for the purpose of furnishing and lighting, and for pay- ment of rent and janitor services from date of occupation to the end of the current financial year, provided that the offices shall be fitted up to the satisfaction of the Select- men, Assessors and Water Commissioner, and also suf- ficient room be given for the placing thereon the building now used by the Water Commissioner as a stable and workshop and yard for the same.
Art. 25. Voted, That the official ballot for the election of town officers shall hereafter contain the names of nomi- nees for the offices of "Commissioner for High School Sink- ing Fund," and "Tree Warden."
Art. 26. Voted, That the article in relation to electric lighting be laid on the table.
Art. 27. Voted, That, for the purpose of procuring a temporary loan to and for the use of the Town of Wey- mouth, in anticipation of the taxes of the present municipal . year, the Town Treasurer is hereby authorized and directed to borrow, from time to time, with the approval of the ma- jority of the Selectmen of said town, a sum or sums in the aggregate amounting to one hundred and forty thousand dollars, and to execute and deliver the note or notes of the

town therefor, payable within one year from the time the loan is made.

The adjourned meeting of the inhabitants of the Town of Weymouth was held at the Opera House, East Wey- mouth, on Saturday, March 16th, 1901, the meeting being called to order at 2 o'clock P. M., by the Moderator.
Art. 28. Voted, That the town raise by a loan, the sum of twenty-five thousand dollars, and appropriate that sum for the erection and furnishing of a School House in Ward One in this town adequate to the accommodation of not less than three hundred and fifty pupils; and that a build- ing committee to consist of nine citizens of the town (none of whom shall be members of the School Committee) to be appointed as hereinafter set forth, shall be charged with the whole duty of planning such School House, of con- tracting for its erection, finishing and furnishing, complete for its use, including the general superintendence of its construction; which Building Committee shall be appointed by the Moderator of this meeting; the names of all the per- sons thus designated to be certified to the Town Clerk, and a record of them made by him.
Payments from the treasury to the amount of said appro- priation shall be made upon the order of the Selectmen, approved by the Building Committee.
That, in awarding all contracts, the building committee is directed to favor citizens of this Town. In the employ- ment of mechanics or skilled labor, so called, residents of Weymouth be given the preference, and that all laborers, so called, in or about the building shall be residents of this Town.
Voted, to raise by a loan and appropriate the sum of twenty-five thousand dollars for the erection of a School House at North Weymouth, and that the Town Treasurer be authorized. with the approval of the Selectmen, to issue

ten notes of $2500 each payable yearly from May 1, 1911, to May 1, 1920, bearing interest at the rate of three and one- half per cent. per annum, payable semi-annually.
Voted, That the Committee appointed to build a new School House in Ward One serve without pay, except for such traveling expenses as may be incurred in visiting out of town buildings for information.
Voted, To take up Article 13, but no action was taken.
Art. 29. Voted, That $300 be raised and appropriated for the completion of the new Nash School House.
Art. 30. Voted. To authorize the Selectmen to enter suit if found necessary for the recovery of money expended for the maintenance of poor, having settlements in other towns or cities.
Art. 31. Voted. That $5,000 be raised and appropriated to be paid into the sinking fund for the payment at ma- turity of the High School bonds.
Voted, To take up Article 7, but no action was taken.
Art. 32. Voted, That the article in relation to the estab- lishment of a Curfew ordinance be indefinitely postponed.
Art. 33. Voted, That the sum of $25,160 be appropriated from the income of the water works for the current year to be expended for the following purposes, viz: $18,160 for the payment of the interest on the Weymouth Water Loan Bonds becoming due the ensuing year ; $1,400 for the salary of the Superintendent of the Works; $900 for the salary of the Engineer of the Pumping Station; $1,700 for the main- tenance (of the works and $3,000 for all other necessary ex- penses.
Art. 34. Voted, That $9,080 be appropriated out of the income of the water works to be paid to the Trustees of the Sinking Fund to be set apart and invested as a Sinking Fund for the payment at maturity of the Weymouth Water Works Loan Bonds.
Art. 35. Voted, That $3000 be appropriated for the purpose of extending the main water-pipe lines.

Art. 37. Voted. That the Town furnish without cost to the Highway Department the water used in sprinkling and in the construction of new streets.

Art. 39. Voted, That the article in relation to Broad Street be indefinitely postponed.
Art. 40. Voted, That the article in relation to a night police in North Weymouth, be indefinitely postponed.
Art. 41. Voted, That the article in relation to Summit Street be indefinitely postponed.
Art. 42. Voted, That $50 be raised and appropriated for the care and improvement of the public parks.
Art. 43. Voted, That the article in relation to the teaching of sewing in the public school be referred to the School Committee.
Art. 44. Voted, That the article in relation to building of four bridges on Broad Street, between Central Square and the division line between Ward's Two and Three be re- ferred to the Selectmen.
Voted. To take up Article 8.
That the Selectmen be instructed to appoint a Super- intendent of Streets who shall hold no other town office, at a salary not exceeding $1,000.
Voted, Not to reconsider the above vote.
Voted, That the Selectmen be instructed to pay the Su- perintendent of Streets a salary of $1,000.
Art. 45. Voted, That the article in relation to deepen- ing the water course on Broad Street be indefinitely post- poned.
Voted, To take up Article 20.
Voted. Not to reconsider the vote whereby it was voted to pay the boards of Selectmen and Overseers of the Poor and Health the sum of $2,600.

Voted, That Articles 46 to 52 inclusive, in relation to electric lights, be laid on the table.
Art. 53. Voted, That the name of Cowing Avenue or Cowing Place be changed to Lafayette Avenue.
Art. 54. Voted, That $5,000 be raised and appropriated and $5,000 be appropriated from the Corporation and Na- tional Bank Taxes for the payment of a note of $10,000, due Dec. 30, 1901.
Art. 55. Voted, That $5,000 be raised and appropriated for the payment of a note of that amount becoming due Jan. 15, 1902.
Art. 56. Voted, To instruct the Board of Selectmen to pay $2.00 per day to all able-bodied men for work per- formed by the Town, whether by contract or otherwise, and preference to be given to citizens and taxpayers, and that eight hours shall constitute a day's work.
