To the Selectmen of the Town of Weymouth :
GENTLEMEN : - The report of the Board of Engineers of Wey- mouth to Dec. 31, 1910, is as follows :
The department as now organized is under the control of five Engineers, as follows : J. R. Walsh, Chief ; W. W. Pratt, Clerk, M. O'Dowd, John Q. Hunt, D. A. Jones.
One hundred and sixty-six men compose the working force of the department, divided as follows : - Three men to each steam- er, five for Chemical 5, five Hose companies and four Hook & Ladder companies of fifteen men each, and two Hose companies of ten men each. I
THE APPARATUS.
Hook and Ladder No. 1 has been painted and we recommend the varnishing of Chemical No. 5 and Steamer No. 1 this year.
HOUSES.
The houses are in fair repair, with exception of Hose House No. 7, which needs painting on the outside, and the floor timber of Hose House No. 3 is weak in places. Two small rooms up stairs in Hose House No. 5 have been heated by hot water from the stove down stairs.
FIRE ALARM BOXES.
There have been requests for Fire Alarm Boxes in the different Wards, and if installed, there will have to be extra appropriation , for the same.
WOOD FIRES.
During the past year there have been a great number of wood fires at a cost to the town of fourteen hundred dollars, which is nine hundred dollars over the appropriation of the past year.

FIRE ALARM.
The report of the Fire Alarm by the Superintendent is as follows :
TO THE BOARD OF ENGINEERS.
GENTLEMEN :- In the past year there have been seventy alarms, which I think is the largest number this town has ever had in one year. They were as follows :
Ward One had twelve (12), Ward Two had seventeen (17), Ward Three had fifteen (15), Ward Four had fifteen (15), and Ward Five had eleven (11).
There has been one new box installed this year, Box 48, opposite Lake View Park, making the number of boxes now forty-three. There has had to be a lot of repairs made, owing to the large number of new poles being replaced by the different Companies. I have also put up a lot of new cross-arms and wire, and I think that two miles of new wire should be had this year. By putting up a little each year as we have done during the past three years, improves the system a great deal.
Yours respectfully,
C. F. COOLIDGE,
Superintendent.

REPORT OF THE LIGHTING COMMITTEE.
WEYMOUTH, January 2, 1911.
To the Honorable Board of Selectmen :
The Lighting Committee respectfully submits the following report :
At the annual Town meeting held in March, 1910, it was voted to raise and appropriate the sum or $8,400 for electric lighting to be expended under the direction of the following committee :
RUSSELL B. WORSTER, MATTHEW O'DOWD,

Your committee contracted with the Weymouth Light and Power Co. to light the streets of the town on a basis of 33 arcs and 342 incandescent lights for the sum of $677.00 per month, (the same rate as in previous years, i. e., $70.00 for arcs and $17.00 for the incandescents, less rebates for poor lights and lights not burning).

So that with these additional lights the price is $703 76.
We also followed our usual custom and installed the two arc. lights near the shore of North Weymouth, from June 15th to. October 1st.
In the following resolution, we express our sympathy for the loss of one of our fellow members-William J. Coleman :
WHEREAS, It has pleased our Heavenly Father to remove William J. Coleman from our midst, be it
RESOLVED, That the citizens of Weymouth [have lost an ideal citizen and an ever faithful servant, who was so suddenly stricken down ;
RESOLVED, That this resolution be entered upon these records as a tribute of honor and respect:
We have received a few requests for lights this year as in 4

years past, but we were unable to grant them, owing to not having any funds.
We received requests from the two Improvement Associations in North Weymouth to do away with certain arc lights and in their place install incandescent lights, which we have complied with.
We also removed the arc light at the "Old Town House Corner," and it is our intention to remove certain others, as we believe better results will be obtained.
The several villages are fairly well lighted, but some of our main thoroughfares between villages certainly need more lights ; also several lights are needed (during the summer especially) along our seashore, which is showing a rapid increase in taxable property.
We have had very little trouble with lights, and the most of what we did have was caused by mixups with the Street Railway lines, which means a burn out all along the line.
We will have a small unexpended balance, which we have partly accumulated by rebates, but we will have to have the same appropriation to carry us through the coming year with the pres- ent number of lights.
