This substitute motion was put before the meeting and was de- clared voted.
Article 23. Mr. John W. Heffernan, Secretary of the Appropriation Committee, moved : That the care and maintenonce of the cemeteries cited under this article be under the direction and supervision of the Committee on Charity and in lieu of charities.
Mr. Joseph A. Fern moved as a substitute motion : That the Select- men be instructed to contract with Wessagusset Post No. 1399 of the Veterans of Foreign Wars of the United States for the care and maintenance of certain cemeteries in the town, namely : Old Cemetery

off Park Avenue; Old Cemetery on Pleasant Street opposite Fair- mount Cemetery ; Old Cemetery opposite Pine Street on Pleasant Street and one located off Randolph Street, and that the sum of $600.00 be raised and appropriated to be paid to Wessagusset Post, V. F. W. No. 1399, for the care of said cemeteries during the current year.
This substitute motion was put before the meeting and it was so voted.
Article 24. Voted on motion of Mr. Heffernan: That no action be taken under this article.
Article 25. Mr. John W. Heffernan, Secretary of the Appropriation Committee, moved : To authorize the Town Treasurer with the ap- proval of the Selectmen to execute and densver to Robert W. Jones of Roxbury or James W. Thompson of South Weymouth sufficient deed or conveyance of the four lots of land on Main Street, Pine Grove Park off Union Street, numbered 356.357, 358, and 359, also four lots on Curtis Street, Pine Grove Park, numbered 364,365, 366 and 367; also four lots of land on Curtis Street, Pine Grove Park, num- bered 441, 442, 443 and 444 for which lots the above-mentioned Jones and Thompson hold receipts, and will authorize the Town Treasurer, with the approval of the Selectmen, to execute and deliver the deeds for the same. This motion was put before the meeting and it was so voted.
Article 26. The Appropriation Committee recomemnded no action under this article.
Mr. Mathias E. Doyle moved as a substitute motion : That the Town of Weymouth accept Chapter 31, Section 48 of the General Laws and amendments thereto, insofar as relates to the acceptance of civil service for the regular members and it shall include the call members of the Fire Department.
After a long discussion on this question, Mr. George S. Peterson moved the previous question, and it was so voted.
The question on the motion of Mr. Doyle was put before the meet- ing and it was so voted.
Mr. Doyle under this article further moved: That the town re- quest theLegislature for an enabling act to allow the Chief of the Weymouth Fire Department to be under Civil Service laws, and that the. Moderator appoint a committee to draft and introduce a petition to the General Court at this session for this purpose.
This motion was put before the meeting and was so voted.
Article 28. Already acted upon.
Article 29. Mr. Everett E. Callahan moved as an amendment to the By-Laws: "No town officer, nor any salaried employee or official of the town, shall sell materials or supplies to the town, nor receive any compensation or commission, directly or indirectly, for services .ren- dered by him to the town, except his official salary and fees allowed by law, without obtaining in each case of the above cases the permis- sion of the Board of Selectmen expressed in a vote which shall appear

on their records with the reasons therefor."
This amendment to the By-Laws was regularly adopted.
Article 30. Mr. Everett E. Callahan moved to add the following section to its By-Laws : "Any board or officer in charge of a depart- inent may, with the approval of the Board of Selectmen, sell any per- sonal property or material not required by such department and not exceeding $300.00 in value, provided that such personal property or material shall be sold at public auction if, in the opinion of the Board of Selectmen, its sale value is more than $50.00."
This amendment was regularly adopted.
Article 31. Mr. Everett E. Callahan moved as an amendment to the By-Laws: "Every officer or board in charge of a department and every committee of the town, when authorized to do any public work, or to purchase any supplies, material or property, or erect or con- struct or repair any building, the estimated cost of which exceeds five hundred dollars, shall make a written contract therefor; and, before executing any such contract shall invite proposals therefore; by ad- vertising on one or more Weymouth papers, such notice of proposals stating time and place for opening proposals, provided further that such board, officer or comimttee shall furnish proper forms and fur- ther that such board, officer or committee shall reserve the right to reject any or all proposals.
This amendment was regularly adopted.
Article 32. Mr. Everett E. Callahan moved: To instruct all de- partments to letter all equipment properly designating its ownership. Mr. Callahan moved as an amendment, by adding the words : except the motor vehicles of the Police Department. This amendment was so voted. The motion as amended was then put before the meeting and it was so voted.
Article 33. Mr. Heffernan moved that the subject matter of this article be referred to the Park Commissioners. Mr. Matthew O'Dowd moved as an amendment by striking out the words Park Commis- sioners and insert the words Water Department. So voted. The motion as amended was so voted.
Article 34. Mr. John W. Heffernan moved: That a committee of five be appointed to investigate the naming of streets within the town and to make recommendations to the next Town Meeting rela- tive to eliminating the duplication or similarity of street names in the several sections of the town. So voted.
Article 35. Mr. Heffernan, Secretary of the Appropriation Com- mittee, moved : That the town raise and appropriate the sum of $1,- 399.50 for reimbusing the Commonwealth for the installation of a traffic signal system on Bridge Street. This motion was put before the meeting and it was so voted.
Article 36. Mr. Heffernan, Secretary of the Appropriation Com- mittee, moved : To raise and appropriate the sum of $155.44 for the purpose of maintaining, during the ensuing year, the mosquito con- trol works as estimated and certified to be the State Reclamation

Board in accordance with the provisions of Chapter 112, Acts of 1931. This question was put before the meeting and it was so voted.
VOTED: That the thanks of the town be extended to George L. Barnes, annual Moderator, for the able and efficient manner in which the annual Town Meeting of 1933 has been conducted, these thanks were extended by a rising vote of the members present.

PETITION FOR RECOUNT Weymouth, March 18, 1933
We, the undersigned of Precinct 8 voters, petition for a recount of the ballots cast in the election on Monday, March 13, 1933, for Town Meeting Members between Everett E. Leavitt, 110 Hibiscus Avenue, Idlewell, Weymouth, and Edwin R. Hanson, 25 Richards Road, Wey- mouth, and we believe that a recount will affect the election of one or the other candidates voted for such election.
The recount to be on the above two candidates for the purpose of deciding a tie vote of 156 votes each received by the candidates in question for Town Meeting Member from Precinct 8. Everett L. Leavitt - Mabel Ritchie - Alexander Ritchie - Arthur H.Hayward - Gertrude Cook - Ernest C. Morse - Nowell C. Kelley - Nora N. LaBaron - George J. LaBaron - Russell L. Beale - Francis A. Chamberlain - Annie M. Beale.
