GOVERNMENT AND ADMINISTRATIVE CHANGES
ARTICLE 22. (At Request of Appropriation Committee). To see what sum of money the Town will vote to raise and appropriate for the expense of a complete survey of the administration and operation of all Town Departments, or take any other action in relation thereto.
ARTICLE 23. (By Direction of Selectmen). To see if the Town will vote to accept the provisions of General Laws (Ter. Ed.) Chapter 41, Sec- tion 111B, which provides sick leave for workmen, laborers, mechanics and foremen.

ARTICLE 26. (On Petition of George E. Lane and Others). To see if the Town will vote to elect five selectmen for terms of three years each commencing with the annual election in 1950, or take any other action in relation thereto.
ARTICLE 27. (At Request of the Tree Warden). To see if the Town will vote to elect a Tree Warden for a term of three years commencing with the Annual Town Election in 1950.
ARTICLE 28. (By Direction of Selectmen). To see if the Town will vote to raise and appropriate the sum of $3,000.00 for the establishment of the Data Sheet System, so called, for the filing of pertinent data in relation to building construction, or take any other action in relation thereto.
ARTICLE 29. (On Petition of Board of Health). To see if the Town will vote to allow one of its members to perform laboratory analysis and receive compensation for his services, or take any other action in relation thereto.
ARTICLE 30. (On Petition of Edward M. Keith and Others,. To see if the Town will vote to change the following district from industrial to residential: the district on the westerly side of Mill Street or the southerly boundary of the Stetson Shoe Company property, southerly to district now set apart as residential containing 35,100 square feet of land.
ARTICLE 31. (On Petition of Robert Scott and Others). To see if the Town will vote to change the following district from residential dis- trict to limited business district described as follows: the land in that section of Weymouth commonly known as Idlewell lying southerly of the New York, New Haven and Hartford Railroad tracks between Idlewell Street and Narragansett Avenue to a uniform depth of 58 feet from the southerly boundary of said New York, New Haven and Hartford Railroad tracks.
ARTICLE 32. (At Request of Donald N. A. Montgomery and others). To see if the Town will vote to amend the Zoning Map of the Town of Weymouth by changing the following district from a residence district to a business district: (a) The district on the southerly side of Park Avenue West from Main Street to 32 Park Avenue West.
ARTICLE 33. (On Petition of William Harty and others). To see if the Town will amend its Zoning By-Laws by adding to Article X, Section II, Item 9, a new clause designated as 'L" to read as follows:
An office or studio for use by a dentist, doctor, engineer, architect, draftsman, artist, photographer, music teacher, writer, lawyer, broker, agent, dressmaker, milliner, hairdresser, public stenographer, or similar accessory use not of a wholesale or retail nature, which in the opinion of the Board of Zoning Appeals is not objectionable, obnoxious or injurious to the best interests of the Town.
Provided, the above accessory use shall not involve the employment of more than three persons including the applicant;
Provided further, that such proposed use does not necessitate struc- tural changes in the building and that the premises remain residential in appearance;
Provided further, that residents within a radius of at least two hun- dred (200) feet of the proposed accessory use but in no case less than

twenty (20) nearest families to said accessory use shall be notified and given opportunity to voice their objections at a public hearing as pro- vided by Section VII, Paragraph 3, of this Zoning By-Law;
Provided further, that an applicant for such accessory use must be a resident of the dwelling involved and a permit for accessory use shall be void upon the removal of the applicant from the premises;
Provided further, that each applicant shall be issued a permit for accessory use by the Building Inspector annually after approval of the purpose and intent of the said applicant by the Board of Zoning Appeals and the following fees are hereby established; for initial permit including action by the Board of Zoning Appeals $10.00, however, in the event an application is denied $5.00 be refunded the applicant; annual renewal $2.00; petition to Board of Zoning Appeals where Building Inspector revokes permit or denies renewal $5.00;
Provided further, that the Building Inspector may for the violation of the provisions of this Section revoke or deny renewal of any such permit but that such action may be referred to the Board of Zoning Appeals by the principal in the case.
SCHOOLS
ARTICLE 34. (At Request of School Committee). To see what sum of money the Town will vote to raise by taxation or otherwise, and ap- propriate, for the purpose of completing a carpentry shop now under con- struction by the Vocational School carpentry class; and to add thereto a storage garage consisting of seven stalls; or take any other action in re- lation thereto.
ARTICLE 35. (At Request of School Committee). To see what sum of money the Town will vote to raise by taxation or otherwise, and ap- propriate, for the purpose of preparing complete plans, working drawings, and detailed specifications, in order that bids for construction of a Junior High School may be secured by the Building Committee authorized under Article 1 of the Special Town Meeting held on June 28, 1948; or take any other action in relation thereto.
ARTICLE 36. (At Request of School Committee). To see what sum of money the Town will vote to raise by taxation or otherwise, and ap- propriate, for the purpose of constructing a six-room addition to the Abigail Adams School, a four-room addition to the Pratt School, and to purchase the necessary equipment for both additions; said appropriation to be added to the sum of $350,000.00 appropriated for the same purpose at the Special Town Meeting held on June 28, 1948; or take any other action in relation thereto.
ARTICLE 37. (At Request of School Committee). To see if the Town will vote to rescind the action of the Annual Town Meeting of March 11, 1912, Article 76, by which it purported to lay out as a public way a certain area from the point where Whitman Street contacts the easterly side line of the James Humphrey School lot to Lake Street, or take any other action in relation thereto.
ARTICLE 38. (At Request of School Committee). To see what sum of money the Town will vote to raise by taxation or otherwise, and ap- propriate, for the purpose of purchasing, in fee, Lots 34 and 35, Block 85. Sheet 7, as appears in the Atlas of the Town of Weymouth for the year 1946, containing about 16,000 square feet, abutting the Bicknell School grounds, or take any other action in relation thereto.

ARTICLE 39. (At Request of School Committee). To see what sum of money the Town will vote to raise by taxation or otherwise, and ap- propriate, for the purpose of acquiring by gift, purchase, or eminent domain, in fee, Lots 16, 17 and parts of Lots 15, 18 and 20 in Block 100, Sheets 7 and 10 and part of Lot 10, Block 102, Sheets 7 and 10, as appears in the Atlas of the Town of Weymouth for the year 1946, containing about 250,000 square feet, 6 acres, located north and east of Pearl Street, as the site for an elementary school; and to authorize the Board of Selectmen to take said properties by eminent domain for such school purposes; or take any other action in relation thereto.
ARTICLE 40. (At Request of School Committee). To see what sum of money the Town will vote to raise by taxation or otherwise, and appro- priate, for the purpose of acquiring by gift, purchase, or eminent domain in fee, Lot 1, Block 493, Sheets 41 and 42, as appears in the Atlas of the Town of Weymouth for the year 1946, containing about 900,000 square feet, 20 acres, and including the buildings thereon located at or near the junc- tion of Park Avenue and Pleasant Streets, as the site for the erection of a Junior High School; and to authorize the Board of Selectmen to take said property by eminent domain for such school purposes; or take any other action in relation thereto.
ARTICLE 41. (At Request of School Committee). To see what sum of money the Town will vote to raise by taxation or otherwise, and ap- propriate, for the purpose of erecting new stairways in the Washington School, to be enclosed in stair wells at either end of the building, or take any other action in relation thereto.
WATER DEPARTMENT
ARTICLE 42. (On Petition of Board of Water Commissioners). To see what sum of money the Town will vote to raise by borrowing or other- wise and appropriate, for the installation of water mains of not less than six inches in diameter, or take any other action in relation thereto.
ARTICLE 43. (On Petition cf Board of Water Commissioners). To see what sum of money the Town will vote to raise and appropriate for the purposes of installing new water mains, replacing present water mains and installing fire hydrants, wherever the acceptance of private ways as public highways require such installations for fire protection, or take any other action in relation thereto.
PARKS AND PLAYGROUNDS
ARTICLE 44. (At Request of Park Department). To see what sum of money the Town will raise and appropriate for the construction of a building for toilet facilities at Stella Tirrell Playground or take any other action in relation thereto.
ARTICLE 45. (At Request of Park Department). To see if the Town will vote to authorize the Board of Selectmen to acquire by purchase or take by right of eminent domain in fee for park purposes a certain tract of land north of Weston Park, Block 277, Lot 12, Map 20, containing ap- proximately 80,000 square feet of land, or take any other action in relation thereto.
ARTICLE 46. (At Request of Park Department). . To see what action the Town will take on the purchase of land owned by James F. Cullinane of 90 Central Street, South Weymouth, containing approximately 19,000 feet more or less, lying adjacent to Stella Tirrell Playground for park purposes.

ARTICLE 47. (At Request of Park Department). To see what sum of money the Town will vote to raise and appropriate for the purpose of acquiring for park purposes the land located on the northeasterly side of Commercial Street and owned by Jessie Lovell, Hugh Burgess, Alfonso Pecoraro, Maria Dunbar and others, or take any other action in relation thereto.
ARTICLE 48. (At Request of Park Department). To see what sum of money the Town will vote to raise and appropriate for the purchase of 500 bleacher seats for the Stella Tirrell Playground.
VETERANS
ARTICLE 49. (At Request of Committee for Memorial for World War II Veterans). To see if the Town will adopt the recommendations of the Committee for Memorial for World War II Veterans embracing the con- struction of a Memorial Hall, and vote to raise by taxation or otherwise, and appropriate the necessary money to finance such construction, or take any other action in relation thereto.
ARTICLE 50. (On Petition of Various American Legion Posts). To see what sum of money the Town will vote to raise and appropriate for the observance of Armistice Day, to be expended under the direction of said Weymouth Post No. 79, American Legion, Inc., the South Shore Women's Post No. 393, American Legion, George R. Bean Post No. 401 American Legion and Greater Weymouth Post No. 394, or take any other action in relation thereto.
ARTICLE 51. (On Petition of American Legion Post No. 79). To see if the Town will vote to authorize the Board of Selectmen to accept from Weymouth Post No. 79, American Legion, Inc., a "Gun" captured by the United States in World War II, now located at the Town Barn, and to see what sum of money the Town will vote to raise and appropriate to pay for transportation and placement of said "Gun" in a suitable location.
POLICE DEPARTMENT
ARTICLE 52. (At Request of Police Department). To see what action the Town will take to continue to replace and/or renew the Police Signal Systems, or take any other action in relation thereto.
ARTICLE 53. (At Request of Police Department). To see what sum of money the Town will vote to raise and appropriate to replace traffic lights at the corner of Broad and Middle Streets, or take any other action in relation thereto.
ARTICLE 54. (At Request of Police Department). To see what sum of money the Town will vote to raise and appropriate for the installation of 2 block lights on Main Street between Nash's Corner and the Stetson Shoe Company, or take any other action in relation thereto.
ARTICLE 55. (At Request of Police Department). To see if the Town will vote to accept the report of the Committee on Parking Meters and that said Committee be continued and authorized to contract for the in- stallation of parking meters, subject to the approval of the Board of Select- men, or take any other action in relation thereto.
MISCELLANEOUS
ARTICLE 56. (By Direction of Selectmen). To see if the Town will vote to appoint a committee for the purpose of securing plans and specifi-

cations to create additional facilities for the housing of Street Department equipment, or take any other action in relation thereto.
ARTICLE 57. (By Direction of Selectmen). To see what sum of money the Town will vote to raise and appropriate for the purpose of cor- recting the lighting in the Town Hall.
ARTICLE 58. (By Direction of Selectmen). To see what sum of money the Town will vote to raise and appropriate for the painting of the exterior of the Town Hall Building.
ARTICLE 59. (At Request of Superintendent of Moth Department and Tree Warden). To see if the Town will vote to raise and appropriate the sum of $1,800.00 for the purchase of special equipment for the use of the Tree and Moth Departments.
ARTICLE 60. (By Direction of Selectmen). To see if the Town will vote to raise and appropriate the sum of $200.00 to be expended under the direction of the Board of Selectmen for the purpose of stocking the ponds and inland waters, located within the Town limits with fish and of liberat- ing game all in accordance with General Laws (Ter. Ed.) Chapter 40, Clause 41, Section 5, or take any other action in relation thereto.
ARTICLE 61. (By Direction of Selectmen). To see if the Town will vote to raise and appropriate the sum of $500.000 for the purpose of main- taining during the ensuing year, the mosquito control works as estimated and certified to by the State Reclamation Board in accordance with the provisions of Chapter 112, Acts of 1931, or take any other action in re- lation thereto.
ARTICLE 62. (At Request of Board of Health). To see if the Town will vote to raise and appropriate the sum of $2,500.00 for aerial spraying of mosquitoes and insect control.
ARTICLE 63. (By Direction of Selectmen). To see what sum of money the Town will raise and appropriate for the printing of the Town of Wey- mouth By-Laws.
ARTICLE 64. (By Direction of Selectmen). To see what action the Town will take relative to the sum of $2,500.00 appropriated from the Rhines Income account under Article 20 of the Annual Town Meeting held March 4, 1940.
ARTICLE 65. (By Direction of Selectmen). To see if the Town will vote to accept as a gift a parcel of land from the Weymouth Light and Power Company where a fishway ladder is being constructed, or take any other action in relation thereto.
ARTICLE 66. (By Direction of Selectmen) To see if the Town will vote to sell a ten foot strip of land owned by the Town of Weymouth which has been designated as a municipal parking area as shown on Town Atlas, Block 304, Lot 50, Sheet 23, to Annie Villanova, 22 Shawmut Street, East Weymouth, or take any other action in relation thereto.
ARTICLE 67. (By Direction of Selectmen). To see if the Town will vote to accept as a gift a piece of land owned by Daisy W. and Joshua E. Fabyan located at 50 Middle Street adjacent to Legion Field in lieu of the Town constructing a sidewalk in front of property owned by Daisy W. and Joshua E. Fabyan at 50 Middle Street, or take any other action in relation thereto.

ARTICLE 68. (By Direction of Selectmen). To see if the Town will vote to transfer the title of the following Water Department property to that of the Park Department. for the purpose of a playground west of the Pond School consisting of: an area 250 feet in depth west of the School Department property line, by 400 feet south along said boundary, from a point 100 feet south of Austin property southwest boundary stake to Shaw property, northwest stone monument, and thence 100 feet south, along Shaw property, western boundary.
ARTICLE 69. (On Petition of Paul Leary and J. Norman Butler). To see if the Town will vote to change the name of Canterbury Street to Charles Diersch Street in memory of the late Charles Diersch who sac- rificed his life in honor of his Country in World War II.
ARTICLE 70. (On Petition of Irving Carter and Others.) To see if the Town will vote to install a hydrant and fire box in the vicinity of Shore Drive and Ocean Avenue, or take any other action in relation thereto.
ARTICLE 71. (By Direction of Selectmen). To see what action the Town will vote on the maintenance of the Ashwood Cemetery now under jurisdiction of the Town in accordance with vote of Annual Town Meeting of 1947 on Article No. 70.
You are hereby required to notify and warn said inhabitants of Wey- mouth qualified to vote in Town affairs, in case all the articles in the fore- going warrant shall not have been acted upon at the meeting called for the seventh day of March, to meet in adjourned session at the hall of the Weymouth High School on

ANNUAL TOWN MEETING
March 7, 1949
Pursuant to a warrant duly issued, the Annual Meeting of the in- habitants of the Town of Weymouth, represented by its duly elected and qualified Town Meeting Members, was held in the hall of the Weymouth High School, East Weymouth, Monday, March 7, 1949.
204 Town Meeting Members were present.
The meeting was called to order at 7:46 o'clock in the evening by Mr. Daniel L. O'Donnell, Annual Moderator.
The attested copy of the warrant was read by Town Clerk, Chester L. Boyle.
MR. GEORGE E. LANE MOVED:
That we dispense with the reading of the Articles in the warrant. UNANIMOUSLY VOTED.
A prayer of thankfulness was offered by the Rev. Norman C. MacLean of the East Weymouth Congregational Church.
Town Meeting Members not sworn in were administered the oath by the Moderator.
The Moderator declared we would now proceed with consideration of the Articles in the warrant.

THE APPROPRIATION COMMITTEE MOVED:
ARTICLE 1. To provide for all expenses or maintenance and opera- tion of each of the Town's several departments and activities for the fiscal year, for certain improvements, and to meet certain requirements of the law, the several sums hereinafter set forth are hereby appropriated for the several purposes and subject to the conditions specified, all such sums to be raised by taxation in the levy of the current year unless some other source of revenue is expressed.
Item 1. For personal services and expenses of the Appropriation Com- mittee $1,000.00
UNANIMOUSLY VOTED.
Item 2. For the Selectmen's Department $6,265.00
The salaries of the Selectmen are hereby fixed at $700.00 for the Chair- man and $600.00 each for four (4) other members for the year. Of the total sum appropriated not exceeding $575.00 shall be for the salary of the clerk who may be a member of the Board. That the sum of $1,000.00 be further raised and appropriated for the taking of the decennial census under the direction of the Board of Selectmen. $1,000.00
