To see if the Town will vote to accept the following chapters and amendments:


"Chap. 265. Authorizing the closing of public offices in cities and towns on Saturdays. Whereas, the deferred oper- ation of this act would tend to defeat its purpose, which in part is to authorize prompt action by cities and towns as a result of which public offices therein may be closed on Saturdays, thereforc this act is hereby declared to be an emergency law, necessary for the immediate preservation of the public convenience. Be it enacted, etc., as follows: Chapter 41 of the General Laws is hereby amended by inserting after Section 110 the following section :- Section 110A. Any public office in any city or town may remain

closed on any or all Saturdays as may be determined from time to time, in a city by the city council, subject to the provisions of the city charter, or, in a town, by vote of the town at a special or regular town meeting, and the pro- visions of section nine of chapter four shall apply in the case of such closing of any such office on any Saturday to the same extent as if such Saturday were a legal holi- day." Will the Town appropriate a sum of money up to $200.00 for the purpose of stocking ponds and other inland water located within the Town limits with fish and of liberating game, as defined in Sec. 1, Ch. 129A, within said limits and to meet the necessary expenses incidental thereto, including the feeding of game so lib- erated, as provided in Ch. 142 of the Acts of 1938, or act on any- thing relating thereto.

To see if the Town will accept the layout of the Selectmen in accordance with a plan on file at the Town Clerk's office, mak- ing a part of River Street, a part of Alden Street, all of Ocean Drive and a part of Julian Street Town Ways and raise and ap- propriate the sum of $5,153.00 for the construction and to pay for land damages, or act thereon.


VOTED: That the Town accept the layout of the part of River Street as shown on plan on file at the Town Clerk's Office, and raise and appropriate the sum of $2,800.00 for construction thereof and land damages if any there be, and that the other lay- outs described in this article be acted upon at the next Special or Annual Town Meeting.


ARTICLE 42


To see if the town will accept the layout of the Selectmen in accordance with a plan on file at the Town Clerk's office, making a part of Captain Pierce Road, all of Hatchet Rock Road and all of Blueberry Lane Town Ways and raise and appropriate the sum of $3,820.00 to pay for construction, or act thereon.

To see if the Town will vote to name the plot of land com- monly known as the Parking Space or Eastern Parkway at Scituate Harbor "Cole Parkway," and erect a suitable marker thereon.

ARTICLE 48


To see if the Town will raise and appropriate the sum of $12,500.00 for a new power grader for the Highway Department, and will the Town authorize the Highway Department to sell or use as trade-in value the old grader now ten years old and obsolete.

Beginning on Page 57 of said Report, said amendment to be by the repeal of the provision noted therein at the bot- tom of Page 60 under "Annual Report of 1904" being a clause with reference to granting licenses which is now superfluous;


Provision from the 1905 Annual Report, now obsolete, as to constables enforcing the Town By-Laws.

To see if the Town will vote to instruct the Planning Board to investigate into the feasibility and advisability of petitioning the Legislature for leave to adopt a town manager form of govern- ment and report thereon to the 1949 Annual Town Meeting or to an earlier Special Town Meeting, or act thereon.

School Auditorium in said Scituate on Friday, the 2nd day of July, 1948, at 8 o'clock P. M., order was called by Moderator Nathaniel Tilden.


The warrant was read by Town Clerk William M. Wade.


Tellers appointed by the Moderator and sworn by the Town Clerk were: Evan F. Bailey, William J. Mays, John F. McCormack, Bernard E. Meyers, George F. Dwyer.


ARTICLE 1


To see if the Town will vote to establish a Housing Authority in accordance with the provisions of the Housing Authority Law, Chap. 121 of the G.L. of Mass., and authorize the Selectmen to appoint four (4) members to serve until the next Annual Town Election and transfer from the Excess & Deficiency Account $500.00 for the initial expense of the Authority, or act thereon.


VOTED: That the Town establish a Housing Authority in accordance with the provisions of the Housing Authority Law, Chapter 121 of the General Laws of Massachusetts, and transfer $500.00 for the initial expense of the authority to be transferred from the Excess and Deficiency Account. Yes, 151; No, 44.


ARTICLE 2


To see if the Town will accept the layout of the Selectmen in accordance with a plan on file at the Town Clerk's office, making a part of Captain Pierce Road; all of Hatchet Rock Road; and all of Blueberry Lane, Town Ways and transfer from the Excess & Deficiency Account the sum of $3,820.00 to pay for construction, or act thereon.

To see if the Town will raise and appropriate or transfer from available funds in the Treasury a sum of money sufficient to install or otherwise effect adequate drainage for the Hatchet Rock Gardens Area, so called, or take any action relating thereto.


VOTED: To transfer from the Excess and Deficiency Account the sum of $18,503.50 for drainage of road areas as accepted under Article 2 of this meeting. Yes, 98; No, 68.
