I explained the error in the public press at that time but as a matter of record will again try and make the matter clear.

We still continue the work recommended by the committee of 31 'and voted by the Town and are adjusting values outside of our regular work. A careful comparison with last years figures will show results.

We have asked the Finance Committee to recommend a per- manent clerk for the department as the growing needs of the Town require some person at hand at all times to give general in- formation and to take charge of our valuable files, that are now at the mercy of everybody. As a consequence we find our cards sadly disarranged, and a source of inconvenience to this depart -. ment.

We see from year to year the importance of the Finance Committee as the tax rate is made up largely by the appro- priations.

Our maps still remain in their original condition despite the fact that hundreds of sub-divisions of property have been recorded the past few years.

We are pleased to note the healthy growth of the Town, with a high class of houses being erected for permanent homes. Per- mits have been taken out for buildings for 1911 far in excess of 1910.

This year the department had a separate appropriation which was formerly taken from the misc. fund.
