CIRCUS LICENSES

Walter L. Mains, Sig. Sautelle. 21 Victuallers' Licenses were granted to various persons.

The information in this report has been furnished as usual by the Clerk of the Board, Mr. H. A. Simonds, whose accurate knowledge of the affairs of the Town has been of great asssitance to our Board. We wish at this time to express our appreciation of his services as well as of the helpful spirit and general disposition to aid us in our labors which we have found in other town officials and citizens.

The following Roll of Honor, containing a list of Wakefield's young men and women in the service has been supplied by the Soldiers' and Sailors' Bureau and Mr. H. M. Dolbeare of the Wekefield Daily Item, to whom we are greatly indebted. It has been compiled with great care, and until the town provides a more substantial and permanent memorial, it will serve as a record and will remind us of the sacrifices made by those who answered their country's call.

Respectfully submitted,

JOHN J. ROUND, Chairman FRANK H. HACKETT, Secretary GEORGE H. TAYLOR WESLEY S. GOODWIN HARRY E. CLEMONS

To the Honorable Board of Selectmen:

TOWN OF WAKEFIELD

ROLL OF HONOR

*Capt. Ralph N. Frost. Vol. Hose. Enlisted Sept. 14, 1917.

*Cecil Grattan. Vol. Hose Enlisted Aug. 4, 1917.

*Carl Cheever. Greenwood Hose. Enlisted April 7, 1917.

*Randall Anderson, Greenwood Hose. Enlisted May 27, 1918. Robert Macdonald, Vol. Hose. Enlisted May 19, 1918.

*Minot Carter. Ladder Co. Enlisted July 15, 1918.

*Means Over-Seas at present time.

RECOMMENDATIONS

Attention was called last year to the bad condition of :he Volunteer Hose Auto. This piece of apparatus was re-built on a Columbia, six-passenger Chassis in 1908. The car was a second-hand machine at that time. It has in my opinion, already outlived its usefulness and is in an unreliable condition and at several occasions during the past year, failed to reach the fire. The same has on several occasions been out of commission for several weeks at a time for repairs. I would earnestly recommend the purchase of a new piece of apparatus to replace this one as the possibility of its need at some fire is too great to be allowed to continue in its present condition.

RECORD OF FIRES

During the year the Department has responded to 165 alarms, divided as follows: 127 still and 38 box alarms. This is an increase of 17 alarms over last year. The box alarms and the still alarms which involved loss are:

Wednesday, January 16th, 7.36 p.m. Box 4. False alarm.

· Sunday, January 27th, 12.25 p.m. Box 13. Dwelling-house at Druid Hill Avenue, occupied by Frank Diginnaro. No loss. soot in chimney.

Thursday, January 31st, 9.27 a.m. Still alarm. Dwelling-house at. No. 32 Bryant Street, owned by A. Winchester, occupied by George McMannus. Loss, $15. Cause, gasoline in sink.
