Article 37 taken up. (Annual Rental for Arlington Post 1775, V.F.W.)
The Finance Committee recommended the following:

That the sum of four hundred ($400) dollars be and hereby is appropriated for the purpose of providing head- quarters for Arlington Post 1775, Veterans of Foreign Wars of the United States; and that said sum be raised by general tax and expended under the direction of the Board of Selectmen.
Mr. Barker offered an amendment by striking out "said sum to be raised by general tax and expended under the direction of the Board of Selectmen" and inserting in place thereof "said sum to be taken from surplus revenue now in the Treasury and expended under the direction of the Board of Selectmen."
And on being put to a vote, the Moderator declared it unanimously carried.
Thereupon, it was unanimously

appoint a Committee to consider the erection of a suitable memorial in grateful recognition of the sacrifices of its citi- zens who gave their service and their lives in answer to their Country's call in the World Wars; said Committee to be composed of one member of the United Spanish War Veterans, one member of Arlington Post No. 39 The Amer- ican Legion, one member of Arlington Post No. 1775 Vet- erans of Foreign Wars of U. S., one member of the Arling- ton Chapter of Disabled Veterans of the World War, one member, who is a father of an Arlington citizen now parti- cipating or who has participated in the armed forces in these respective wars, and one member who is a mother of an Arlington citizen now participating in the armed forces, or who has participated in the armed forces of these wars. Said Committee to report its recommendations to the Town at the Annual Town Meeting of 1945; make an appropriation of one hundred dollars for the use of said Committee and said sum of one hundred dollars to be taken from surplus revenue and spent under direction of Board of Selectmen.

RESOLVED, that it is the sense of the Town Meeting to recommend to the Board of Selectmen that they accept the provisions of Sections 56 to 59 inclusive of Chapter 32 of the General Laws, Tercentenary Edition, and amend- ments thereto, which provide for the retirement of veterans of the Spanish War and veterans of the First World War who were in the service of the town on or before June 30, 1939, in accordance with the requirements and conditions set forth in said statutes.
On being put to a vote it was unanimously carried.
Thereupon, it was unanimously

Thereupon, it was unanimously
Voted: That the town do accept Section 3A of Chapter 115 of the General Laws, Tercentenary Edition.
There being no further business under Article 40, the Moderator declared it disposed of.

And you are directed to serve this Warrant by posting attested copies thereof in, at least, five conspicuous places in each precinct, seven days, at least, before the time of said meeting as directed by vote of the Town. You are further directed to leave an attested copy of this Warrant at every dwelling house in the Town.

A notice of the time, places and objects of the meeting was published in the local papers.

In pursuance of the foregoing Warrant the legal voters of the Town of Arlington met in their respective voting places in said Town on Tuesday, the twenty-fifth day of April in the year of our Lord One Thousand Nine Hundred and Forty-four at twelve o'clock Noon.
The following places were designated as the voting places for the various precincts.
Precinct One, in the Crosby School Building, entrance on Winter Street; Precincts Two and Four, in the Hardy School Building, entrance on Lake Street; Precincts Three and Five, in the Junior High School East; entrance on Tufts Street ; Precincts Six and Eight, in the Town Hall; Precincts Seven and Nine, in the Russell School Building, entrance on Medford Street; Precincts Ten and Twelve, in the Cutter School Building, entrance on Robbins Road ; Precinct Eleven, in the Highland Hose House, entrance on Massachusetts Avenue; Precinct Thirteen, in the Peirce School Building, entrance on Park Avenue North; Precinct Fourteen, in the Locke School Building, entrance on Park Avenue.
The election officers, having been duly appointed by the Selectmen, and sworn to the faithful performance of their duties, were assigned for duty at the various precincts.

All laws governing primary elections were observed.
The necessary ballots and all other paraphernalia for the proper conduct of the election was supplied by the Town Clerk and turned over to the officers of the various precincts.
The polls were declared open at twelve o'clock Noon and remained open until eight o'clock in the evening at which time, after due notice, they were declared closed.
The ballots were counted by the election officers and encased in boxes which were locked and sealed, and the same were delivered by direction of the Town Clerk to the Police Station where they were placed under police guard until after the expiration of the time within which a peti- tion for recount might be filed.
The returns and keys to the ballot boxes from each precinct were turned over to the Town Clerk and with the assistance of the Registrars of Voters and Mr. Clarence Needham the returns were canvassed and the result an- nounced.

And you will notify and warn the voters of the Town of Arlington to meet at the times and places herein speci- fied by leaving at every dwelling house in the Town a print- ed copy of this warrant, and also by posting a copy of the same at the doors of the Town Hall and in a conspicuous place in each of the fourteen precincts of the Town, seven days at least prior to the time of said meeting.
Hereof, fail not, and make due return of this Warrant, with your doings thereon, to the Town Clerk, on or before said day and hour of meeting.
