REPORT OF THE PUBLIC SAFETY COMMITTEE ON THE WAR WORK OF ALL ORGANIZATIONS DURING THE PAST YEAR.
This will be the last report that will be made under the supervision of the Public Safety Committee. When the armis- tice was signed November 11, 1918, the State of Massachusetts Public Safety Committee as well as all local committees auto- matically ended their work. The work that has been done has been of incalculable benefit to the country in many ways. In case of emergency in the future the committee could be called together again in short notice.
On the day the armistice was signed the whole country went wild with enthusiasm. All industry was stopped and the people gave the day over to the celebration. Bells were rung, whistles blown for many hours and Westford did her share. - In the center of the town the schools were closed and a parade formed by the school children and citizens under the direction of the teachers. Forge Village and Graniteville organized early in the morning and marched to the center of the town where the several organizations consolidated and marched through the several streets led by the Forge Village Fife and Drum Corps to the common where they gathered around the band stand. Patriotic speeches were made and singing the "Star Spangled Banner," "Marseillaise" and "Rule Britannia Rule" amid the cheers of the people. It is estimated 500 persons took part in the celebration. A most memorable day in the history of West- ford. The old committee as published in the Town Report last year remained the same and a few new committees have been appointed this year as follows :
For Enrollment for Men to Work in Ship Yards-Alfred W. Hartford.
On Local Food Administration-James W. Rafter, Chairman. Food Production-Frank C. Wright.
Food Saving-Mrs. John P. Wright.

Food Control-Frederick A. Hanscomb.
Retail Merchants Representative-Harwood L. Wright. Hotels, Clubs and Restaurants-Frank L. Furbush.
On After Care-Julian A. Cameron.
On Non-War Construction-Herbert V. Hildreth, Chairman; Leonard W. Wheeler, Harry B. Prescott.
On Home Service Section of the North Middlesex Chapter Amer- ican Red Cross-Sherman H. Fletcher, Chairman; Mrs. Adeline M. Buckshorn, Secretary; Wesley O. Hawkes, Mrs. Clara Gray, John Edwards, Miss Grace Lawrence.
The following work has been done from March, 1918, to January 1, 1919: Number of families served, 17; amount of money loaned, $151.00.
The following amounts have been subscribed by the citizens of Westford :
Y. M. C. A. $ 7,500.00
Third Liberty Loan 270,000.00
Fourth Liberty Loan 480,000.00
United War Work 10,500.00
American Red Cross 1,713.00
Number of members of American Red Cross for 1919, 1,705.
The Massachusetts Soldiers' Information Bureau for the Town has prepared the following list of all enlisted and drafted men of Westford who have been and are now in the United States service. On account of the many transfers from one organization to another it is impossible to designate what organ- ization they are in. In order that each community may have, as speedily as possible, an authentic record of its own men in the service, the Adjutant General of the State requests that every man be asked immediately upon his arrival to register with the Town Clerk :
