NEILL A. ROBERTSON, son of George and Sarah Finna- more Robertson, born at South Devon, N. B., Mar. 12, 1890. He came to Guilford in 1906 and learned telegraphy and sta- tion work at the local station. He has served several years as Station Agent at Oakfield, Sherman, and now located at Greenville for the B. & A. R. R. He married Miss Susie Daggett of Sherman Mills, and she was born Aug. 10, 1888. Children, Erma L., Bertrand N., Glenn F., Walter C., Roberta G., Paul R., and Douglass F.
ARTHUR D. ROGERS, a former school teacher, oldest son of Walter and Lucia Rogers, born at Abbot, Jan. 28, 1869. June 28, 1898 he married Miss Mary E. Huff, born at Ripley, Feb. 6, 1865. She died at Guilford, Dec. 25, 1930. They had one son born in 1899 and died in infancy. A second son, Lewis G., born Oct. 30, 1900, married Sarah Pearson of Guilford, and now lives in Eliot.
C. ROBERT ROLLINS, foreman in dressing room, woolen mill, son of George T. and Helen Backus Rollins, was born at Blanchard, June 30, 1897. June 30, 1927 he married Miss Doris P. Huff, daughter of Leroy and Maud Merrill Huff, and she was born at Willimantic, June 11, 1903. No children.
AUGUSTUS N. RONCO, born at Dexter, Jan. 19, 1888, son of Augustus and Flora Jennes Ronco. He came to Guilford in 1908, and married Miss Lulu M. Hatch, daughter of Adelbert E. and Lena A. Stevens Hatch, and was born at Parkman, Dec. 24, 1891. Children, Burchall, born Feb. 6, 1913; Fern, born July 26, 1916, and Ernest, born Mar. 29, 1918, all at Guilford. Mr. Ronco is overseer of the dressing department in the Oldtown Woolen mill, Guilford.
MRS. EMMA KNOWLES ROSE, daughter of the late Edwin and Ella Fern Knowles, born at Willimantic on Aug. 8, 1873. She was married to Erlon Eldorus Rose of North Guilford on March 24, 1894. Mr. Rose died Apr. 26, 1932. They had two sons, Willis C. and Orman K. and one daunghter, Vera, now Mrs. Ralph Weston. Orman K. died at Guilford, Nov. 3, 1917.
LELAND A. ROSS, son of Frank and Sarah Tewksbury Ross was born at Atkinson, Feb. 18, 1868. At Guilford, May 7, 1895 he was married to Maude Hussey, daughter of David

and Angeline Hersom Hussey. She was born at Mercer, June 2, 1872. Two children were born from this marriage, Char- lotte Fern Ross, born at Guilford, and now a teacher at Port- land, and Donald Stanton Ross, born at Turner Centre, and now a teacher at Wassokeag School, Dexter. Stanton Ross was married March 1929 to Marjorie Seavey, daughter of Harry and Josephine Seavey, Dexter. Mr. Leland Ross grad- uated from Bates College in June 1893 and the next Fall be- came Principal of Guilford High school. He followed his profession of teaching until forced to resign because of ill- health. Mr. Ross died at Portland, March 30, 1938.
FRANK J. RUKSZNES, son of Frank and Mary was born in Lithuania, Nov. 15, 1895. October 10, 1925 he married Miss Virginia Littlefield of Guilford, daughter of J. William and Luella Clark Littlefield and was born Nov. 12, 1900. Mr. Ruksznes is employed by the Oldtown Woolen Co. They have one son, Paul L., born June 10, 1928.
JAMES KENNETH RULAND, millman, son of John and Neva Hardy Ruland was born at Guilford, July 5, 1905. August 13, 1928 he married Miss Hazel Welts, daughter of George and Bertha Trafton Welts who was born at Parkman, April 9, 1908. They have two children, Alice Ann, born Oct. 30, 1934 and Warren Carl, born Nov. 30, 1939.
MISS ADAH P. SAVAGE, daughter of Edwin and Linda Sav- age, born at Franklin. Graduated from Castine Normal school in 1914 and has taught school at Presque Isle and Guilford, having taught at the latter place since 1926.
W. MONROE SAWYER, millman, son of Ora M. and Eliza- beth Hilton Sawyer, born at Dover-Foxcroft, July 21, 1907. June 6, 1936 he married Miss Marguerite M. Rollins, born to George T. and Helen Backus Rollins, Mar. 15, 1908. Mrs. Sawyer has been telephone operator at Guilford since Feb. 1, 1924, and since 1935 has acted as Agent for the telephone company. She is active in the Rebekah Lodge, Junior Woman's Club and Ladies Circle of the Universalist church. Both are members of the Fellowship Club.

ist church, belongs to the Masonic bodies and is interested in all worth-while projects that are beneficial to the Community, State and Nation. From 1921 to 1925 he was with the bank at Belfast, 1925 to 1929, with a bank in Boston, and since 1929 has been with the Guilford Trust Company.
EUGENE M. SCALES, younger son of the late John and Hattie (Mudgett) Scales, was born at Guilford, May 5, 1886. He graduated from Guilford High school in 1906, and from a special course at the University of Maine in 1910. He worked in the W. B. Dickey hardware store in Bangor in 1914. Then, associated with Ernest W. Genthner, they purchased a hardware store at Saco, and for two years operated it under the name of Scales Hardware Company. In 1916 he sold the business and returned to Guilford and immediately bought into the store with his father, the late John Scales, and when his brother Charles Raymond Scales died in March 1935, he bought his share and became the sole owner of the business. June 21, 1922 he married Miss Hazel Dexter of Dover-Fox- croft, and they have two sons, John D. born May 8, 1924 and Arthur E. born March 4, 1926.
JAMES G. SCALES, older son of Adaline Haskell and the late Charles F. Scales, born at Guilford, June 21, 1886. Gradu- ated from Guilford High in 1905 and from the University of Maine in 1910. Mr. Scales went to Ohio soon after college, and married Miss Frances Allen. He was successful as a chemist, real estate operator, banker and in the insurance business. He was a Republican, Universalist, Mason, Ro- tarian. Mr. Scales died very suddenly from a heart attack in June 1941, at Hudson, Ohio, leaving a daughter Elizabeth and son Nelson. Mrs. Scales passed away in 1939.
NELSON N. SCALES, younger son of Adaline and the late Charles F. Scales, born at Guilford, Sept. 17, 1888. Gradu- ated from Guilford High in 1907, and from the University of Maine in the class of 1911. Salesman, merchant, hotel oper- ator; Republican, Mason, member of Universalist church. Married Florence Cross of Dover-Foxcroft. No children by this union.
A Memorial to the late CHARLES F. and ADALINE A. HASKELL SCALES. Mr. Scales was born at Corinna, Oct. 6, 1860. He attended his town schools and Foxcroft Academy. Came to Guilford when a young man and was closely connected with its business life and progress. Was a member of F. & A. M .; Knights Templar; Mystic Shrine and K. of P. Universalist.

Operated a successful clothing business for several years, was an efficient tax collector, and spent some years as traveling salesman. June 10, 1882 he married Miss Adaline A. Haskell, born Sept. 9, 1862, and a direct descendant of one of Guilford's earliest town officials. They had three children, Edith A., James G., deceased, and Nelson N. Mr. Scales died at Guilford Aug. 9, 1917 and Mrs. Scales passed away at Guilford April 4, 1942.
GORDON A. SEARS, younger son of the late Hiram and Edna Pease Sears born at Guilford, Jan. 5, 1912. Graduated from Guilford High class 1929. Mr. Sears learned telegraphy at the Guilford station and was employed with the Bangor & Aroostook railroad until he resigned in 1936. On July 27, 1935 he married Miss Helen L. Lord, daughter of Elmer and Marcia Ames Lord of Sangerville. She was born at Guil- ford, July 18, 1911; graduated from Sangerville High school class of 1930. They have one child, Myrna Kathleen, born July 9, 1937. They now reside in Hartford, Conn., where Mr. Sears is employed by the United Aircraft Corpn.
MARK L. SEARS, oldest son of the late Hiram L. and Edna Pease Sears, born at Guilford, Oct. 9, 1909. Sept. 6, 1936 married Miss Madaline N. Bartlett of Blanchard, daughter of George A. and Veda Bartlett, and was born Dec. 5, 1913. Mr. Sears graduated from Guilford High school in 1928, and Mrs. Sears graduated from Higgins Classical Institute and at- tended Farmington Normal two years. He is a woolen mill carder. They have one son, Kent George.
JOHN R. SCHULTZ, born at Beulah, Mich., Aug. 2, 1911, son of William J. and Nina Bowerman Schultz. On June 24, 1933 he married Miss Harriett May Chase of Sangerville, who was born July 23, 1914. Children, Richard Wayne, Winnifred Elaine and Barbara Ellen.
WILLIAM J. SCHULTZ, born Feb. 24, 1886 in Freemont Township, Michigan. Nov. 11, 1908 married Miss Nina Bow- erman who was born at Watertown Township, Mich., Aug. 8, 1888. Mr. Schultz has been a foreman in the packing depart- ment of the Hardwood Products Co. for seventeen years. Children, Doris, John, Sieferd, Marjorie, Gertrude and Patricia.

LEO GARDNER SHESONG, born to Jerome and Catherine Elizabeth (Warman) Shesong at Greenville, Dec. 7, 1885. Graduated from Greenville High school, Colby College, and University of Maine Law school. June 22, 1937 married Marion A. Moulton, and they have one daughter, Mary Eliza- beth. Mr. Shesong has two daughters, Ruth V. and Faith L. by a former marriage. After graduating from the Greenville schools, Mr. Shesong learned telegraphy at the Guilford sta- tion with F. W. Keniston and later worked his way through college and law school as a telegraph operator and train dis- patcher at Waterville. They have two children, Paul- ine M., born Nov. 25, 1928, Richard W., born Oct. 5, 1934. LINWOOD CHESTER SMALL, son of Willard S. and Delia L. Clark Small, born at Wellington, Mar. 11, 1891. On Oct. 19, 1915 married Miss Hazel B. Bradford, daughter of Owen D. and Maria Packard Bradford, and born Dec. 9, 1896. They have one daughter, Geraldine, born Aug. 3, 1924. Mr. Small is a painter and paper-hanger.

JAMES C. SNOWDEN, was born at Somerville, Mass., June 20, 1915. He came to Guilford in 1937, and on July 3, that year, married Miss Fern Ronco who was born at Guilford, July 26, 1916. They have one daughter, Brenda Jean, born July 11, 1941. Mr. Snowden is employed by the Hardwood Products Co.
ARTHUR PERCY STACY, son of the late George W. and Violet Hussey Stacy, born at Blanchard, Jan. 6, 1894. Sept. 21, 1918 he married Miss Helen Sherburne of Aurora, who was born June 5, 1895. Children, George J., now in war service, and Ruth, a student at the University of Maine. Both children are graduates from Foxcroft Academy. After Mr. Stacy himself graduated from Foxcroft Academy, he was associated with his brother Emmons in the lumber business at Shirley until 1929. He operated the "Ledges" eleven sea- sons, then from 1930 to April, 1936 was proprietor of the Braeburn Hotel at Guilford. Since then he has operated the Blethen House at Dover-Foxcroft.
ALBERT F. STEVENS, older son of the late George Fred and Lucretia Annette Folsom Stevens, born at Guilford, Mar. 1, 1875. June 10, 1897 he married Miss Angie E. Lewis of Sangerville. They had one daughter, Elva A., who married Addison B. Palmer of Bangor. Mrs. Stevens died at Guil- ford, July 19, 1924. June 22, 1926 Mr. Stevens married Isabel Cobb Nelson, widow of the late Roy E. Nelson. She is a member of the Methodist church and active in the D. A. R. Mr. Stevens was a clerk in the French & Elliott Co. store for thirteen years and then seventeen years as a member of the firm.

ELMER H. STEVENS, oldest son of the late Charles W. and Sadie Huff Stevens, born at Guilford, Mar. 25, 1879. On April 14, 1906 he was united in marriage, by the late Rev. Isaac H. Lidstone, to Miss Bertha M. Jackson of Willimantic. She was born July 11, 1884. Mr. Stevens was a foreman in the Piscataquis Woolen mill for many years. He has served the town as Selectman, and Fire Chief. He is a Past Noble Grand of the local I. O. O. F. Lodge, and Past Patriarch of Moosehead Encampment. For the last few years he has operated a village farm and milk route. Children, Millard of Auburn, and Fern of Biddeford.
JAMES B. STEVENS, younger son of the late Charles W. and Sadie Huff Stevens, born at Guilford, March 12, 1885. After attending the Guilford schools, he took a position as repair- man in the Piscataquis Woolen Mill. He is a Past Noble Grand of I. O. O. F. Lodge. As Deputy under Sheriff Brown in 1913-1914 he gave this territory one of the best enforcements of law it has ever had. On April 21, 1906 he married Miss Cora Herring of Guilford, daughter of the late Harvey W. and Lottie Crafts Herring, and she was born Sept. 24, 1884. She is an active member of the Universalist church and the D. A. R., and is a Past Noble Grand of the Rebekah Lodge. They have one son, David, now Town Manager at Milo, and a daughter, Charlotte, now Mrs. Willis D. Cookson, in town.
MILLARD CHARLES STEVENS, only son of Elmer H. and Bertha Jackson Stevens, born at Guilford, May 8, 1908. He graduated from Guilford High in 1925, and from the Maine School of Commerce, Auburn, in 1927. He commenced work in the National Shoe and Leather Bank, Auburn, while in school, and continued until Jan. 15, 1938 when he accepted the position of Treasurer of the Auburn Savings Bank. Mr. Stevens married Miss Dorothy Parker on June 27, 1931. They have two daughters, Carol Ann, and Andrea Lee.
WILLIS C. STEVENS, millman, born at Abbot, July 18, 1888, son of Alanson and Marietta Heath Stevens. Jan. 26, 1918 he married Mintie B. Harris, born to Benjamin D. and Nancy M. Sinclair, Sept. 13, 1891. No children. Mrs. Stevens has two daughters by a previous marriage, Vera M., married Charles Tremblay, and Veatrice, married Forrest W. Huff.

ROBERT BRUCE STEWARD, an insurance agent for the Prudential Insurance Co. since Nov. 1933, was born to Walter L. and Margaret Ann Biggers Steward, at Attleboro, Mass., Feb. 23, 1910. He graduated from Monson Academy in 1928, and attended the University of Maine three years and is a member of the Phi Etta Kappa Fraternity. Is a member of the Masons, Chamber of Commerce, President of the Country Club and affiliated with the Methodist church. April 14, 1934 Mr. Steward married Miss Barbara Jane Campbell of Guilford and born April 15, 1915. They have one son, Robert James, born Dec. 20, 1939.
MARION J. STEWART, was born at Newport, Mar. 24, 1906, son of Robert and Mabel Stewart. On Jan. 14, 1939 he married Miss Harriett M. Gould, only daughter of Eugene J. and Nellie Matthews Gould, and she was born at Guil- ford, Feb. 4, 1914. They have no children. Mr. Stewart is employed in the Hardwood Products Co. mill, and Mrs. Stewart is a clerk in the Koritsky drygoods store.
CLIFTON R. STONE, farmer, born at Grand Lake, Queens County, N. B., June 1, 1880, son of William and Elizabeth Monteith Stone. June 27, 1906 he married Miss Elizabeth Given, born to Thomas and Minnie. Carson Given, July 23, 1885. They have five children, Harold A., married Betty Snowden of Harmony, and they have one daughter, Sandra. Carl K. now in the U. S. Army, married Marion Sanborn, and they had three children, Constance, Kenneth and Janice. Molly, married Kenneth Albee of Dover-Foxcroft, and they have two daughters, Joan and Jean. C. Roy married Anna Hutchinson of Sangerville, and they have one daughter, Ann. A. Garfield married Anna Davis of Dover-Fovcroft, and they have one daughter, Nancy Lee. Mr. Stone has two daughters by a former marriage, Florence, married Irving Grant of Sangerville and they have no children. Vivian, married Harold Wilson of Sangerville, and they have two daughters, Betty Jane and Nadine. Mr. and Mrs. Stone have also brought up her nephew, Charles Hodgdon, since he was three years old, and he graduated from Sanger- ville High school in 1942. He, with the seven listed above, makes a total of eight children that they have graduated from this school. Before coming to Sangerville, later to Guilford, Mr. Stone was a paper maker in the big mills at Millinocket.

DAVID R. STRAW, 2nd, son of Gideon M. and Mary Hall Straw, born at Brownville, June 14, 1871. Attended Guil- ford schools and Bucksport Seminary. Married Miss Sophia J. Brown of Monson, Oct. 6, 1896. Children, Merle, a den- tist in Everett, Mass., Eldred, an insurance adjuster, Pitts- burg, Penn., Florence M., died March 16, 1933, Alice R., now Mrs. Phillip R. Higgins, Salem, Mass., and Irving H., a graduate of Bentley's School of Accounting, and now an accountant in Waltham, Mass. Mr. Straw has been a woolen mill weaver for many years.
FLOYD R. STROUT, son of the late Fred and Emma Strout, was born at Alton, May 17, 1888. In June 1936 he married Winnifred Miner of Guilford. He has been manager of the First National Stores in Guilford for several years. Mr. Strout has a son, Earl, by a former marriage, born Sept. 10, 1920, and now in World War II.
DR. RALPH C. STUART, graduated from Providence, R. I. Classical High school in 1914; Georgetown College Bachelor Science degree in 1919, and graduated from Georgetown Medical School, June 14, 1921. He commenced practicing medicine at Calais, then moved to Sangerville in 1925, and came to Guilford May 27, 1940 and purchased the attrac- tive Dana H. Edes house on High street, and enjoys a large practice. The doctor was born at Calais on April 14, 1896, son of Harry W. and Nancy G. Aldrich Stuart, of Charlotte. July 6, 1922 he married Miss Ruth W. Groves, born at Mill- town, Dec. 30, 1901, and graduated from Calais Academy in 1919. They have one daughter, Marilyn, born Aug. 8, 1924, and in the Guilford schools.
CLIFTON E. TAYLOR, son of William A. and Bertha Patter- son Taylor was born at Parkman, Aug. 31, 1911. Graduated from Guilford High school in 1929; attended Farmington Normal school one year. Employed with the B. & A. R. R. for five years. Went to Connecticut to work in Pratt & Whitney's airplane engine factory. July 8, 1935 he mar- ried Evelyn Faye Lord, born at East Dover, June 26, 1914, daughter of Elmer and Marcia Lord of Sangerville. Chil- dren, Dawn Carolyn born March 4, 1937, and Marvin Wayne born Oct. 26, 1938.
HARLEY W. TAYLOR, millman, was born at St. Johns, N. B. March 3, 1890, son of John W. and Annie Chapman Taylor. In Dec. 1916 he married Miss Nettie Feero, daughter of

HELON N. TAYLOR, game warden supervisor, has made his headquarters on Oak St., Guilford, since the summer of 1941. He was born at Coplin Plantation, Franklin County, Maine, Oct. 17, 1897, the son of Lynn and Edith Butler Taylor. June 30, 1924 he married Hilda Sylvester, born at Eustis, April 19, 1904, daughter of Harry and Vera Rogers Sylvester. They have three children all born at Eustis, William Harrison, Dora Olive and Doris Marion.
MILTON P. TAYLOR, oldest son of William A. and Bertha Patterson Taylor, born at Willimantic, June 13, 1904. April 24, 1935 he married Miss Frances Watson and she was born Mar. 7, 1910. They have a son, Robert, born April 17, 1936, and a daughter, Marilyn born July 2, 1940. Mr. Taylor served three years in the field-artillery in Wash- ington State, and two years in the infantry in Boston Har- bor. He is now employed with the Guilford Textile Co. in town.
REGINALD E. TAYLOR, was born at Brownville Jct., Apr. 23, 1897, son of Neil and Nellie Parsons Taylor. Dec. 17, 1923 he married Miss Lora M. Redman, a school teacher, the daughter of Samuel J. and Bertha Redman and was born Sept. 8, 1899. Children, Patricia E., Virginia L., Neal R. and Diane C. Taylor. Mr. Taylor has been a successful insurance salesman in Guilford since October 17, 1932, and Mrs. Taylor has done considerable substitute work in the- schools.
MAURICE S. THOMPSON, truck operator, son of Aratus and Minnie Bates Thompson was born at Oldtown, Oct. 4, 1898. Oct. 9, 1925 he married Miss Elida Ruth Noddin, born to. Albert S. and Florence Hatch Noddin at East Corinth, Sept. 11, 1907. Children, Dorothy J., born Nov. 11, 1927 ; Donald A., born Sept. 3, 1929; Wayne E., born June 29, 1930 ; Gloria. R., born Jan. 5, 1934.
MRS. ALICE C. TOMPKINS, was born at South Newbridge, N. B., in 1867, daughter of the late Dennis and Elizabeth Murphy. She was married to Charles S. Tompkins of North Hampton, N. B., who was born in 1860, son of Will -.

iam and Eliza Tompkins. Mr. Tompkins was a prosperous farmer, moving here from Woodstock, N. B., in 1908 and purchasing the Harrington farm on the Parkman road. He died in Guilford village Jan. 17, 1932, and Mrs. Tompkins now resides in Guilford village. Children, Ethel M., now Mrs. Carl Martin ; Henry W., and Stanley A., both married and living in Rhode Island.
ERNEST L. TONER, son of Charles F. and Emma Smith Toner, born at Auburn, Dec. 2, 1884. On June 19, 1907 married Miss Eva Littlefield of Orono. One son, Charles M. Mr. Toner graduated from the University of Maine in 1907, and has done graduate work at the U. of M., Harvard and Bates colleges. He is now superintendent of the Guil- ford-Sangerville-Abbot-Parkman-Wellington school district. Mrs. Toner died at Guilford, Nov. 8, 1941.
WALTER TOZIER, woolen mill employee, was born at Lewis- ton, son of George B. and Sadie E. Tozier, Oct. 18, 1895. Aug. 24, 1920 he married Miss Sherley M. Wyman, born at Monson, Aug. 25, 1898. Children, Marilyn O., born Oct. 12, 1927 ; David W., born Oct. 17, 1928; Josephine H. E., born Nov. 22, 1929, and George P., born Sept. 20, 1939. Mr. Tozier is a veteran of World War I, serving in Co. F., 103rd. Infantry, 26th Yankee Division ; and Mrs. Tozier is a Past President of Frank R. Conner Post 119, American Legion Auxiliary. They are affiliated with the Methodist church, and Mrs. Tozier is a member of the choir.
KENNETH W. TRIPP, son of Lewis J. and Mura (Roberts) Tripp, born at Abbot, July 3, 1913. Graduated from Abbot High school in 1931. Mr. Tripp did clerical work until January 1, 1942 when he took over the "Gold Nugget" lunch business on Elm street. Oct. 3, 1934 he married Miss Maxine M. Campbell of Guilford who was born Oct. 19, 1912. They have one daughter, Beverly Nan, born Jan. 14, 1937. Mrs. Tripp was a graduate of Guilford High school in 1929.
