Grand Rapids city :
1st ward
(a) In 1891, by legislative enactment, portions of the townships of Grand Rapids, Paris, Walker and Wyoming, containing about 10,000 inhabitants, were added to the city of Grand Rapids. The entire city was rearranged into wards, and instead of 10 wards, as by the census of 1890, the city was divided into 12 wards and the senatorial apportionment act of 1892 recognized the new arrangement of city wards. In the absence of an official census, there was no means of knowing the population of the wards and townships affected by the change in the apportionment of 1892. A careful estimate gives the 16th district about 56,000, and the 17th district about 54.000 inhabitants, based on the census of 1890.
