Minneapolis has rounded out another year full of achievements. Since the last issue of this directory, gains have been made in every compilation by which a city's commercial and civic progress may be measured. Chief among the accomplish- ments of the twelve months was the establishment in Minneapolis of the Federal Reserve Bank of the ninth district, which makes secure the position of Minneapolis as the financial center of the Northwest.

There has been a tremendous increase in the wealth of Minneapolis and in the territory tributary to it, and manufacturing, wholesaling, retail merchandising and all other business has increased appreciably. The material progress of the city is rivaled only by the record of advancement in its educational and other cultural and moral activities.

Minneapolis still enjoys the distinction conferred annually by the United States Census Bureau of being the most healthful city in America of more than 300,000 population.

The accompanying figures compiled by the Statistical Division of the Minne- apolis Civic & Commerce Association present a most enlightening review of the steady growth of Minneapolis.

This volume contains 168,337 names, exclusive of deaths, removals and business firms, an increase of 12,921 over our 1913 book.

Figured on the same ratio basis that our 1910 names bore to the U. S. Census figures makes an increase of population during the past year of 26,938, which, added to 324,000, the population shown in our 1913 directory, indicates a present popula- tion of 350,938.
