Powell (Poulussen), Thomas, baker, was ser- geant in the W. India company's service in Brazil, from 1641 to 1653 ; in 1657 he was in Beverwyck where he remained till his death in 1671. Besides several lots in Beverwyck he owned a parcel of land behind Kinderhoek and between Kinderhoek and Neuten- hoek, which his widow, Jannetie Donckertse, and Robert Orchard conveyed to diverse persons in 1671.

Provoost, Johannes, clerk in Fort Orange under Johannes DeLa Montagne and notary public from 1656 to Nov. 1664, when he became secretary of Albany until August, 1665, and again from Oet. 1673, to August, 1675: Sheriff of Albany 1678; died 1696. He had three wives ; by the first, a son Isaac, bp. in Albany Sept. 23, 1683 ; he married secondly, Sarah Webber, widow of L. Vander Speigle, June 26, 1685 ; they made a joint will Nov. 3, 1685 ; letters of admin- istration were granted on her estate Dec. 23, 1685; thirdly, he m. Anna widow of Domine Van Neuwen- hnysen, July 18, 1687. In 1696, the sheriff of Albany, was directed to expose his goods at public sale and " pay his debts so far as it will goe." He or one of the same name was called schoonsoon of Elizabeth Baneker, in her inventory made in 1693.
