ECLIPSES IN THE YEAR 1849.
There will be two Eclipses of the Sun and two of the Moon this year.
I. There will be an Eclipse of the Sun on the 22d of February, at the time of New Moon in the even- ing, invisible. This Eclipse will be visible in the eastern part of Asia, in the North Pacific Ocean, and in Russian America. It will be central and annular on the Meridian, in longitude 153º 9' east from Greenwich, and latitude 41º 22' north.
II. There will be an Eclipse of the Moon on Thursday, March 8th, in the evening, visible throughout New England, and chiefly visible in most of the Southern and Western states.

III. There will be an Eclipse of the Sun on the 18th of August, at the time of New Moon, in the morning, invisible in America. This Eclipse will be visible in most of the Indian Ocean, in the south- eastern part of Africa, in Madagascar, and in the southern parts of Australia. It will be central and total on the Meridian, in longitude 91º east from Greenwich, and latitude 369 8' south.
IV. There will be an Eclipse of the Moon on the 2d of September, at the time of Full Moon, in the afternoon, invisible in America. It will be visible in the opposite hemisphere.
