Translated from a loose piece of paper :

NEW PALTZ, Nov. 1, 1782.

Whereas reading and singing during religious service are not only beautiful (een zierraedt) but also in accordance with the word of God and the canons of the church, therefore the Rev- erend Consistory, after Mr. Coddington for sufficient reasons had resigned, have unanimously elected Mr. Simeon Low, and contracted with him for the amount of £3 annually. For which reason, in order to satisfy the aforesaid person, we earnestly request the congregation to assist us, and to sub- scribe in order to annually pay him, as long as he shall faith- fully perform his service. The surplus shall be carefully saved until the needs of the church shall require it.
