THE MORAND DAGUERREAN GALLERY, 65 CHATHAM STREET,
Opposite Chambers Street, NEW YORK.
No expense has been spared in rendering this one of the best establishments of the kind in the city ; the elegance with which these rooms have been fitted up insures to Ladies and Children com- forts rarely met with at any other Gallery.
The artistic arrangement of the light as well as the perfection of the chemical and mechanical department, together with the fact that Mr. MORAND attends personally to every picture taken at these rooms, renders it impossible not to obtain a perfect likeness.
LIKENESSES taken separately or in groups of any number, and neatly set in Frames, Morocco Cases, Lockets, Breastpins, or Rings, as may be desired.
The perfection which has been attained in this beautiful art, enables him also to produce perfect likenesses of children as well as adults, in an exceedingly short space of time.
Citizens or strangers visiting the Gallery can have their Miniature or Portraits taken without regard to the weather, from 8 A. M. to 5 P. M. The best hours for children are from 11 A. M. to 2. P. M.
Gentlemen's Country Seats, Churches, National Buildings, &c., correctly taken.
Likenesses of deceased persons also taken.
Paintings, and Daguerreotype Miniatures can also be copied, in many cases to surpass the original.
The Gallery has no connection with any other establishment in the city. OPINIONS OF THE PRESS.
The following are a few of the unsolicited encomiums bestowed by the Press :
From the New York Sun.
"FIRE GILT DAGUERREOTYPES .- As there is scarce a day transpires without some new and valuable improvement being made by the many artists engaged in the profession, we cannot allow the present opportunity to pass without calling the attention of our readers to the beautiful improvement made by Mr. A. MORAND, 65 Chatham Street (opposite Chambers Street), who not only seems to excel all others, but has actually reduced the price of his best Fire Gilt Likenesses, which are rendered perfectly durable, to an unprecedented low price, placing it within the reach of all to secure a miniature of those who are dear to them."
"BEAUTIFUL DAGUERREOTYPES .- We were much surprised at the perfection to which this art has been carried, on visiting, a few days since, the rooms of Mr. A. MORAND, 65 Chatham Street, opposite Chambers Street. Mr. A. M., who has applied himself for a number of years with untiring energy and perseverance, has succeeded in producing some of the most exquisite specimens of the art we have ever seen. His improvements also enable him to furnish the likenesses colored and enclosed in a beautiful case for the lowest price a good picture has ever been offered at in this country. None therefore need deprive themselves of a perfect miniature on the score of economy."

PLIMPTON'S SECRETARY BEDSTEAD AND TOILET TABLE COMBINED, MANUFACTURED AND FOR SALE WHOLESALE AND RETAIL BY THE PATENTEES,
H. R. & J. L. PLIMPTON, WESTFIELD, Massachusetts, and 62 WHITE STREET, 3d door from Broadway, NEW YORK.
The Subscribers would return their sincere thanks to the citizens of Brooklyn for the very liberal patronage bestowed upon this invention since its first introduction in this vicinity, and hope that the reputation of our articles will merit the continuance of the same esteemed favors.
4
Above is a correct representation of the Bedstead and Toilet Table, as formed by this arrange- ment, the same when folded and placed together form a Secretary or Bookcase; as we make over twenty different patterns of Secretary, it would be impossible to represent them here; therefore we would extend a general invitation to the Ladies and Gentlemen of Brooklyn, to make us a call (whether wishing to purchase or not), at, 62 White Street, and examine our various patterns, and witness the transformation of the article from its daily to its nightly use. We insert the follow- ing notices, to insure those unacquainted, that this is a thing of sufficient importance to merit attention :
[ From the Boston Pathfinder in Report of Mass. C. M. A. Fair.]
" An elegant affair, suited for parlor or sitting room ; upon turning it down, a nice Spring Bed is discovered, also, a Toilet Table, Drawers, and other important requisites. This piece of furniture seems to be the grand centre of attraction."
[ From the Philadelphia Daily Enquirer, in Report of the Pennsylvania State Fair.]
" It presents the appearance of an elegant Bookcase. When desired the lower portion of the frame can be immediately converted into a complete Toilet Table. while the remaining part, with little or no exertion, is as readily changed to a commodions Bed with spring Mattress so admirably constructed, as to permit a free circulation of air at all times, whether closed or not. It is not only an exceedingly ingenious contrivance, but one that challenges the admiration of all who behold it. Altogether it is the completest thing of the kind we have ever seen."

BROOKLYN DIRECTORY ADVERTISER.
PLIMPTON'S SECRETARY BEDSTEAD AND TOILET TABLE COMBINED. -
A most useful article, bringing as it does, all the above necessaries into a small compass .- Boston Daily Atlas.
[ From the Jersey City Daily Sentinel, May 21st, 1855.]
" Passing 62 White Street, New York, we called to see Plimpton's Secretary Bedstead and Toilet Table com- bined, and although our expectations were somewhat elevated from the description that we had received of its arrangement, we must say it far exceeded our expectations, for here we saw a chaste and ornamental Secretary replete with writing accommodations, drawers, &c., transformed in less than 30 seconds into two separate and perfect articles of Furniture : One a panelled side double French Bedstead with spring Mattress and a ready-made bed with pillows, and all complete. The other, a Wash Stand or Toilet Table with all the appurtenances and conve- niences for wash and toilet use. These two separate articles with all their equipage are replaced by an equal effort into Secretary form with all the night accommodations concealed from view, protected and well-ventilated. The public want has long demanded an arrangement of this kind whereby the parlor or sitting room could be easily converted into a sleeping apartment, and numerous ingenious contrivances have been tried to accomplish this result ; but never before have perfect sleeping, washing and toilet accommodations been rendered practicable and acceptable in genteel apartments. Foreign ingenuity and skill has to surrender to this American invention, and the governments of Great Britain and France have each awarded it their royal letters patent. These high privi- leges and the deserved encomiums of praise bestowed by the press and by distinguished individuals, who have the article in use, together with the favor and patronage it receives from the public, will, we hope, suitably reward the inventors for the ingenuity, perseverance and skill expended in producing such a perfect and desirable article. Many discerning proprietors of first class hotels in New York and other places, are furnishing their parlors and sitting rooms with these genteel and luxuriant arrangements, so that the same can be used as sleeping apartments by their favored guests, and in case of a crowded house, to do away with the cot bed system, heretofore resorted to on such occasions.
"Most of these arrangements, however, have been introduced into private parlors and sitting rooms, and have afforded convenience and luxury that could not otherwise have been attained, furnishing in the hot season a cool, airy sleeping apartment, instead of a small upper room; and in cold weather a good nice bed in a large warm apartment. This convenience for the aged sick or indisposed, is invaluable, if not indispensible. It would be useless for us to further describe the article, or name the various circumstances in which its use would be found to be desirable ; for this is an article that must be seen in operation so that its real merits can be understood and appreciated. The proprietors understand this fact, and give a public invitation for all to call and see. Therefore, let our readers call and examine, and we assure them that they will be repaid for their trouble."
[From the New London Chronicle, of June 5th, 1855.]
" A BEDSTEAD THAT IS A BEDSTEAD." -Mr. Sheriff Payn showed us two or three days since a dormitorial contrivance which at any rate, was so new to us and seemed to combine so many conveniences, that we are dis- posed to mention it, though for aught we know it may be familiar to others. On first going into the room, we could see nothing that wore any appearance of the article we were invited to look at, and it seemed for some time that we had probably become the victim of a good natured practical joke. All there was in sight was some handsome furniture in the room, and among the rest a superb bookcase or perchance a wardrobe, though somewhat small for either. Mr. Payn, however, proceeded to open the bookcase, and soon developed a congeries of conveniences of which we had not dreamed. In the first place by detaching the lower part of the front we found a fine toilet table, wash-stand and all the appliances of a complete dressing room; touching another spring the magic fabric fell into a horizontal position, and elongating itself became a beautiful bedstead on which an elegant spring mattress made its appearance, good enough, and luxurious enough for an Emperor or even for an American republican to sleep upon. All the former form of a bookcase had disappeared, and it ' stood confessed ' a first-rate bedstead sure enough. After seeing it sufficiently in this form, other springs were touched, and presto ! it was back to a bookcase in a trice ; a splendid parlor ornament snugly and cosily occupying little more space in the room than a good sized easy chair ; the whole process of taking apart and putting together again, capable of being performed in less than a minute."
