OFFICIAL RECORD
Published by Order of the Conference Maurice D. Gribler, Editor
BISHOP F. GERALD ENSLEY
Bishop F. Gerald Ensley presided over his first session of the Ohio Miami Conference and demonstrated both excellent skill as a presiding officer and as a preacher, as well as a genial spirit in the affairs of the Conference.
Bishop Ensley is the son of a Methodist minister who served in the North- east Ohio Conference. After graduation from Ohio Wesleyan University in 1927, he continued his education at Boston University, where he received his Ph.D. degree. He was ordained in 1936 and served pastorates in Massachu- setts, New Hampshire and Ohio. He served also as Professor of Homeletics in Boston School of Theology from 1938 to 1944. In 1952 he was elected a Bishop and served in Iowa from 1952 to 1964. Since 1964 he has led the Ohio West Area of the United Methodist Church.
DR. WILLIAM K. MESSMER
With the close of the 1969 Conference session William K. Messmer brought to completion twenty years of Christian service as Conference Superintendent. He now becomes the Administrative Assistant to Bishop F. Gerald Ensley and assumes responsibilities over a wider area of the church. He united with the Conference in 1930, was ordained by Bishop Arthur Clippinger in 1939, served four different churches as Pastor and was elected Conference Superintendent in 1949.
These years of service won for him recognition in the entire church as a devoted minister, capable administrator and loyal friend, for all of this was undergirded with a total commitment to Christ and his Church. His co-workers in Ohio Miami Conference know him best as "Bill" and this salutation sums up the personal affection and love with which the ministers and members of his churches greeted him. Our prayers and good wishes will follow him in his new relationship in the church.
DR. CARL B. ESCHBACH
Dr. Carl B. Eschbach was born at Tyrone, Pennsylvania. He received his Quarterly Conference License in the old Allegheny Conference in 1922. He was ordained in 1930 in the Phillipine Conference by Bishop Lorezana. He received his education at Otterbein College and United Theological Seminary. Otterbein College bestowed upon him an honorary doctorate. Carl and Ruth, his wife, come to conference leadership with an excellent background of training and experience-in the mission field, the general staff of the church and two meaningful pastorates in our conference. We grant our loyal support to their leadership.
