Came to Ohio at the age of 20 and secured a position as clerk in a dry goods store at Columbus, O., some few months later. Secured the Columbus agency of the John Hancock Mutual Life Ins. Co., of Boston, Mass., and was soon advanced to the position as state agent of the company for Ohio and West Virginia, which position he still occupies. In 1900 became connected with the organization now known as the Nat. Bank of Com- merce and has been its president since its inception. Served as trustee of The
