J. H. DOTY, . - Principal.
The College apartments are large and commodious, well ventilated, and elegantly furnished, making them the most desirable school rooms for Mercantile Instruction in this city or the West. "The Principal has published an important "Practical Method of Computing Interest," with almost electric rapidity, alike at any per cent, being universally conceded the simplest and briefest ever devised. All should have a copy. The "Method" is given to students gratis.
Many other Business Calculations are alike shorn of very much of the usual circumlocution and tedious unmeaning prolixity. These, with other valuable improvements and additions, rc- cently made to the Regular Course of
DOUBLE ENTRY BOOK KEEPING, &C.
Together with Daily Lectures on the Science of Accounts, Mercantile Calculations, Customs of Merchants, Principles of Book Keeping and Penmanship, Commercial Law, Political Economy, Art of Detecting Counterfeit Money, &c., make the Course of Study more practical and complete than ever, all being so arranged as to enable the student to get the largest amount of information in the shortest possible time. The mode of teaching is peculiar to this Institution, and confess- edly merits, what it fully receives, the suitable signet of superiority. Proficiency is our motto.
BOYS' COURSE OF STUDY.
A course of Mercantile Instruction, especially adapted to Masters and Lads, with a view of fitting them for Clerkships and Counting House Assistants. is now in readiness as introductory to the more extended course. Those quite young, thus matriculating for instruction, can avail themselves, gratis, of the Penmanship and Lectures given to Full Course Students. Rates for this Course, liberal.
For Terms, &c., call at the College, or address the Principal for Catalogue. By arranging for a Course of Study in the above College, you will never regret it. Competent Assistants in con- stant attendance with the Principal.
"In confirmation of the true merit of the " Practical Method of computing Interest," above mentioned, read the following letters. Many others received from reliable sources, and of like import, are not here given, for want of space.
INDIANA ASBURY UNIVERSITY, Greencastle, Ind., March 6, 1861. J. II. DOTY, Esq., Cincinnati, O .- DEAR SIR :- I have received and examined a copy of your " Practical Method of Computing Interest." It is, as you claim, accurate, comprehensive, brief, and simple, and certainly superior to the Rules and Tables generally in use. Yours respectfully, JOIIN W. LOCKE, A. M., Prof. of Mathematics.
MIAMI UNIVERSITY. Oxford, O., March 18. 1861. J. II. DOTY, Principal of Bacon's Mercantile College. Cincinnati, O .- DEAR SIR :- As to the excellence of the Method detailed in your Pamphlet, I give unhesitating assent. Very truly yours, R. II. McFARLAND, Prof. of Mathematics.
GEORGETOWN COLLEGE, KY., March 26, 1861.
J. H. DOTY, Principal of Bacon's Mercantile College, Cincinnati, O .- DEAR SIR :- I have, of recent years, examined many Methods of Computing Interest, but, I confess, yours to be the simplest and most succinct of them all. Yours truly, REV. D. R. CAMPBELL, L. L. D., President.

REDWAY & BURTON, MANUFACTURERS OF VAN'S IMPROVED
WROUGHT IRON COOKING STOVES
ATENWARNER
SOUTHERN BELLE
ROASTER
-
17 Sizes, for Wood or Coal. With or without Steam Table, Hot Water Tank. &c. With Apparatus complete, is the most t'onvenient, Economical and Durable Stove ever Invented, for STEAMBOATS, HOTELS, RESTAURANTS, BOARDING AND PRIVATE HOUSES.
Van's Improved Wrought Iron Cooking Stoves, -
Of which we mannfacture seventeen different sizes, are the result of many years careful experi- ment and experience, and are confidently believed to be superior to any Cooking Stoves now in use. The wonderful aivan- tages which they possess over all others, consists in the capacity of the flues; excellent draught, even distribution of the heat around the ovens; superiority o the cooking. which. united with the multiplicity of work they are capable of perform- ing, renders them the most complete Stoves in their various combinations, that have ever been presented to the community. The unprecedented demand, and universal testimony in their favor, have encouraged the inventor, MR. JOHN VAN, who personally superintends the manufacture of these Stoves, to still further efforts to make them a perfect article. The mate- rials used, and the workmanship. are of the best quality; and we feel confident that the improvements recently made will cause them to be still greater favorites with the public.
-
WE ALSO MANUFACTURE VARIOUS SIZES OF CARVING TABLES,
Which are, without exception, the most useful piece of furniture ever invented for the Hotel Dining room; to substanti: te which fact. we can furnish abundant testimony from prominent Hotel-Keepers throughout the country.
Cooked Meats and Vegetables can he kept constantly hot, without undergoing any change or drying process, as is the case where chaffing dishes are used. It is heated hy attaching to the Stove or a separate Heater. which can be placed in the cel- lar, or wi.ere convenience may dictate The expense of heating is very trifling, not costing, where Stone and Charcoal are used, more than five or six cents per day.
Our PORTABLE BROILER costs less and consumes less coal than ordinary broilers. Itis gotten up in the most sub- stantial manner. The top is made of wrought iron, with a sliding door in front, which, when closed, forces all the smoke and disagreeable oder from broiling meats. into the flue or chimney. We manufacture three sizes.
We also manufacture five sizes of LAUNDRY STOVES, with Water Attachment, and suitable for Private or Public Laundries of the largest class. Also, all kinds of Copper and Sheet- Iron Work to order.
