The minutes and record of this congregation lave been poorly and imperfectly kept. All that we row of is in this tool.


During my pastorate we have purchased a new church record, which will be used hereafter in reser in the records of the correction,

and official acts of the pastor and this old book is to be used as a minute book for the council and all business transactions of the congregation.


The german part of this old record I had translated into english, by Mr. Simon Wirt, of Millersburg, Paurhine Co., Pa. Part of it is transcribed into the new record, and the translation of Mr. Wirt is preserved in the new record for reference.


It is to be hoped that hereafter a correct minute of all business transactions will be kept in this book, and a correct record in the new book.

Next following the "rustees & Council agreed to cut Oak tree and have sawed to suitable lumber of which was to rec'd. $8.00 per. thousand of which this'money was to pay backstanding delts.

The Pfoutzes Valley Luthern congregation of the Ct. Michaels church held a congreg tional meeting but six families being re- presented. The purpose of the meeting was to elect a new council. Part of council had resigned and one vacancie was caused by the death of M. L. Erlenmeyer who had been secretary of that body for some time.


Michael Noll was eleted chairman of the meeting and A. T. Holman Secy. The following parties were elected by acclimation

It was further agreed to hold an anual congregational meeting in the church on the second Caturday of December of each year for the purpose of transacting such business as may be before the coucil.


The church being with out 's pastor for five months it was agreed to give the Rev. Flick a call as pastor. He having preached a trial sermon a few weeks previous to this meeting. There beeing no more business, adjourned.

Form of Constitution and Discipline of the St. Michaels Evangelical Luthern Church of Pfoutzesvaley Pa.


Chap Ist.


Preliminary Principles


Beleving that the object for which the church was established, by Jesus Christ its Divine Founder and Head, Can be secured only in an associaed capacity and that as order is necessary to the Property of every association it is the duty of evry individual church to adopt such form of government and discipline as shall be concistent with the spirit and precepts of the New Testament, We whose names are under signed hereby solmly form ourselves into a Christian Church.


In doing this wereceive as a bond of union the doctrinal art- icles of the Augsburg Confession beleiving that they teach the firm damental doctrines of the Word of God in a manner sub- stancialy correct.


But above all human creeds we acknowledge the Wholy Scriptures as the wholly infallible and sufficient rule of faith and prac- tise, and hereby pledge ourselves to God and each other to be goverened by the following Constitution and Discipline.


Chap 2nd


Of the Church its Name.


Duties Offices &c.


Sec. Ist This Church shall be knowen by the name of St. Michaels Evangelical lutheran Church of Pfoutzesvaley, Pa.


Sec. 2nd The Duties incumbent on this congragation are


A. To see that the word of God be preached in its purity, and the Sacriments be administered according to the forms of the Evangelical Luthern Church.


B. To labour for the purity of its members in faith and practice.


C. To provide adiquete religious instructions for the children of the Church.


D. To give a just and adiquete support to its p. stor.


F. To provide for the purpetuction of an Evangelical ministry and assist in spreadding the Gospell to the ends of the earth.

E. To make provision for its worth poor. &


Sec. 3 The Officers of this Church shall be a Pastor, to Elders, To Deacons and Three Trustees.


Chap 3rd


Of Bishop or Pastor


Sec. Ist The office of Bishop or Pastor was instituted by our Lord Jesus Christ and is of perpetual standing in the church.


Sec. 2nd The pastor must be the husband of one wife vigilant, sober of good behavior given to hospitality apt to teach, not given to wine, not greedy of filthy lucre Not a brawler not covetous; but patent and who ruleth well his own house Loving his children in subjection with all , ravity; and moreover he must have a good report of them which are without.


Sec. 3rd He must be a member of the Evangelical Luthran Synod of Central Fe. if not a member of this Synod on tak- ing char, e of this Congregation he shall unite with it at the first meeting of Synod after such pastorial relations shall have been formed.


Sec. 4 The duties of the pastor are principaly these


A. To give himself' to prayer and the studdy of Gods Word.


B. To Conduct the Services of the Sanctuary. Expound the Word of God and Administer the Secraments of the Church,


c. To visit the people of his charge especialy the sick the fatherless and the widow.


D. To pay particular attention to all who are without the Church and endevour to let (lead) them to Christ.


E. To Catechise the children of the church and these who are candidates for Confirmation:


F. To pray with and instruct inquiring souls wherever he may deeme it advisable.


Sec. 5 He shall not knowingly grant to a member of any other Church any privalidge to which such member is not entitled in his own church.


Sec. 6 Should the pastor at any time five cause of Offense in doctrin or life (Which may God in Mercy prevent) it shall be the dity of the Church Council Lernestly to exhort him several times to repentance and re- formation, and if this should prove ineffectual or if the case be such as to bring disgrace upon the Church. 2nd. To report him to the President of Synod.

Chap Eth.


Of Elders, Deacons & Trustees


Sec.1 The Elders, Deacons and Trustees are the repasentatives of the whole church and are selected by the members of the church as their agents to perform some of the duties originally devolving upon the members themselves. 0 Sec. 2 No one shall be elected to the office of Elder or Deacon who is not a member in full communion with the church, and who does not bear a good christian character.


Sec. 3rd According to Sec. 3rd Chap. 2nd. There shall be elected Two Ilders, Two Deacone and Three Trustees to Serve a term of Two 2 years except the Tru tees who shall serve 3 years and they shall be so chosen that a part only viz one Flder one 1 Deacon and one Trustee retire from office at the same time.


Sec. 4 Then persons have duly elected they shall be inducted into their office according to the form precribed by the Church bide Litrrey &c


Sec. 5 The principles dutes of the Elders are these Ist. They shall set before the Church a truly Christian example. 2nd. They shall take that soundness of doctrine and that wholesome discipline are mantained in the Church.


3rd. They shall attend the prayer and other devotional exercises of the church and in the abcence of the Pastor see that they are conducted deacently and in order.


4th. When discord and controvercies arise they shall exert themselves to the utmost in the use of evry scriptural means reconcile the parties concerned and restore Peace.


Sec. 5th If the Pastor desire it they shall accompany hin in his visits to the sick.


Sec. 6th They shall see that all the temporal affairs of the Congracations are duly attended to and administered and aid in the execution of any measures adopted to provide its wellbeing.


Sec. 6th The duties of the Deacons are chiefly the following Ist. They shall set before the congrigation a truly Christian example.

Sec. 6th cont .:


2nd. They shall reder all necissary and in the Services of and especialy in the administration of the Lords Supper.


3rd. They shall take up all collections in the Church and pay the Sums collected into the hands of the Treasure as often an he may consider it necessary for the good of the church.


4th. They shall see that according to the command of the master the Pastor receives a just and ade- quete Support and that all things connected with the Puplic Worship of God be done decently and in order.


Sec. 7 The duties of the Trustees are principly the following


Ist. They shall endeavor with the help of God to set their own household and the whole congregation a worthy example by their Christian work and Conversation.


2nd . They shall take care that the property of the Church is not injured or destroyed and that the house of Worship & any other buildings belong- ing to the Church are kept in good repair.


3rd. That the deeds and other important documents of the Church are carefully preserved.
