INTRODUCTION.
Herewith we present the fourteenth volume of the VITAL RECORD OF RHODE ISLAND, believing it will prove as interesting as any one of the previous issues of the series. In this volume we finished the Deaths from the Providence Gazette and have inserted the Marriages under the letters A, B, C. These bear the date 1762 to 1825. As we remarked in the previous volume, "This will supply a long felt want to the genealogical student. The public records have little or nothing in the way of deaths and many bur- ials have no stones erected with the record upon them, especially at the period covered by this volume."
We are very happy in announcing that-our plan of giving ex- tended notes with the death as it has become better known is very highly appreciated and many compliments have been given us for the information thus conveyed. The intelligent scholar has come to our conclusion that it is the life of the work.
We shall follow this plan in the future, at the same time try- ing our utmost to make every word count.
The General Assembly have again in their wisdom extended to us in this volume their usual courtesy. The officers in charge of the newspapers have been as usual very obliging and have given us all the aid in their power for our compilation. Our thanks are given these officers for the favors named. We do not forget our friends for their words of cheer, kind assistance and encouragement of our labor.
Please bear in mind in reading these dates that in every case where the word GAZETTE OF precedes the date it means that the DEATH or MARRIAGE was published in that issue, and where the the word GAZETTE does not precede the date given it is the date of the said DEATH or MARRIAGE.
We close by trusting that the reader will find pleasure as well as instruction in the perusal of this volume, as well as feel that he has been compensated fully for his time spent in our company.
