Benjamin, First Lieutenant of the U. S. frigate Chesapeake, at sea, on board the frigate near Norfolk, Va., was a native of Pawtuxet,
Arthur, at Beaufort, S. C., aged 23 years, killed in a duel with Thomas Hutson, Jr., aged 22 years, and buried in one grave with his murderer. Gazette of
Capt. David, of Portland, Me .; his son Moses died in the West Indies, in 1788, aged 22 years ; his daughter Mary died at Portland, in 1789, aged 19 years ; in 1797 and 8, he lost one ship, one schooner, a part of a brig with all the trading stock he then possessed; his son Godfrey died Oct. 15, 1803, at sea on passage from Liverpool to Portland, aged 20 years; his son David died Feb. 14, 1804, at Jamaica, aged 30 years. At this time the schooner Friendship was wrecked, being the only vessel he had at sea ; his son Lendall died March 13, 1804, at Portland, aged 32 years ; his store took fire July 10, 1805, and was destroyed with all its contents, valued at $3,000 ; his wife died Aug. 11, 1805, aged 58 years ; his daughter Ruth died at the same time, aged 36 years ; his daughter Hannah Day died Oct. 15, 1806, aged 30 years ; his daughter Dolly Taylor died Sept. 29, 1807, aged 25 years; beside which the Captain has met with several other smaller losses.
