St. Paul's Church, Narragansett, 1718-1875.
MARRIAGES.
St. Paul's Church, Narragansett, is numbered two among the churches of the diocese. There have heen claims made that it was the oldest, although Trinity of Newport is numbered one. The territory once covered was very large as appears from the early entries on the church Register.
Wilkins Updike published in 1847 a History of the Church. In strictness it is really a series of notes based npon certain data from the Register. To this work the reader is referred for further information.
Mrs. Harriet (Vaughan) Gregory had the kindness to carefully read and copy from the first Register of the Church the data we have here used np to the year 1790. From this year we were permitted by the Clerk and Rector to continne to the end of the Rectorship of Rev. Daniel Goodwin in May 1875. St. Panl has had an eventful history and has stamped its influence upon the community. Its church building at Wickford is of a very tasteful design. The old Church in the village is kept in good repair, although not used. It is a heantiful lesson of reverence for others to follow. It speaks well of a community to show a respect to that edifice where their ancestors sat and worshipped in days gone hy.
