TEMPLE.
Population 15,000. Located on the G. C. & S. F. and M., K. & T. Rys., in Bell county, S miles cast of Belton, the coun- ty seat, 35 south of Waco and 213 north- west of Houston. Temple is one of the principal cities of central Texas, and is in the center of the waxy land belt. Bell county is noted for the richness of its soil and large farm production. In 1912- 13 It produced 82,250 bales of cotton. Other staple crops are corn, oats, dairy products, live stock and produce.
Temple has splendid shipping facilities, also 26 passenger trains daily. It is an important point on the Sante Fr systeni, being at the dividing point of its two great lines-one extending to all north- ern points and the other to all points west to the Pacific coast. The Sante Fe shops are located here and have a month- ly pay roll of $80,000. Temple has churches of the leading denominations, graded and high schools, a business col- lege and military academy; three thor- oughly equipped hospitals, four banks, with over $200.000 deposits and com- bined capital and surplus of $200,000: one daily newspaper, the Telegrain, and one weckly, the Mirror, are published. Among its manufactures are 2 cotton oil mllls, several cotton gins, foundry and machine shop, candy factories, 2 planmg mills, chewing gum and cigar factories, and several minor industries; as a whole- sale center it has 7 grocery, fruit and produce firnis. Temple has modern busi- ness buildings and beautiful residences, well ornamented with shade trees and shrubbery. A large opera house is in course of construction and many other buildings in process of erection certity to Temple's continued growth and pros- perity,
