Their farm crops consist for the most part of cotton, corn, sorghum, milo maize and kaffir corn, hut the basis of thelr farming operations is the dairy industry.
Situated in Yoakum is the largest
turkey slaughtering plant in Texas, and Yoakum is considered the turkey mar- ket of the South. A cotton oil mill, a large compress, and a mattress factory are here. The San Antonio & Aransas Pass Railway Company maintains its
shops here and over 500 men are em- ployed in these shops. The pay roil for the month is in the neighborhood of $75 .- 000, nearly $1.000.000 a year.
